A neighbour was get rid of a large iron vice so of course I had to take it home. Trouble is the jaw is broken.

Can this be repaired? Is so how?

I’d like to upload some photos but every time I try, it fails with no error message.

Hate to say it but my take is that vise is beyond salvage for mere mortals. I've got an above average metal working setup and I couldn't/wouldn't tackle it. Just my dos pesos.

Shame that it was so abused.

I'm with Richard on this one. You'll have more $$ into the repair than just finding a less abused used vise. The one jaw needs to be rebuilt by machining a replacement part and then attached by welding. Welding cast iron can cause additional brittleness, exactly what you don't want on a vise. Different grades of cast iron require different welding rods so correctly identifying the cast iron grade is imperative. Unfortunately, that vise's useful life is over.  [sad]

Have to agree on this one.

But if the jaws still open and close, I say open them up and stick a flower pot between the jaws and call it yard art.  [tongue]

I reckon its knucking fackered but has a few donor parts on it that could well be used to repair another damaged one of the same type if you get hold of the same make and model.
Otherwise its a very hefty doorstop.

cheese and crackers was this at the bottom of the ocean????

bring it to a metal recycling that's a $20

although if you're crazy enough everything is restorable. i see them youtube vids they are fishing the lakes and rivers looking for such specimens to restore. the worse off the better the views
