Vlies Abrasives for finishing poly?

Can I use the Vlies Abrasives Green (496510) and White (496511) for knocking down bubbles, brush strokes, etc. in water based poly?  Are these abrasives meant just for the Surfix finishing oils?  I currently only have an ETS 125 hence the 125mm part numbers.

Is there a better way?  What is the equivalent to these in Granat abrasive grits?

Thanks in advance!

Cheers,
Eric

The green and white Vlies are really just for the Surfix. They work the finish into the material more than acting as an abrasive.

Check out this video below showing the process for lacquer.

Thanks Shane, maybe I can just go up to 800 grit?  Currently I'm sanding from 220, to 320 in between coats of poly.  For the most part, it looks fine after 320, there are just some angles that show the brush/wipe strokes.

I use 320~400 Abranet on an interface pad. I guess I'm used to using screens from my hardwood flooring days.

That's not really been my experience to be honest. I find the white Vlies pads work similarly to steel wool, and I use them to smooth finishes in the same way when I have a large surface to cover. They work very well on oil, but I have also used them to cut back shellac and poly. The best tool for the pads is a rotex with a green polishing pad in rotex geared mode. I use a RO125.

If you can see brush marks you're not sanding deep enough. Going to a higher grit will only make matters worse and create more work.

Use 320-400 Granat, practice until you get the process correct.

Ok, I'll chase this one out to the limb...

If you are seeing brush marks, there may be a product or application issue. Let's sort the cause out...

Assuming that I can do that same with RO-90 on a smaller surface? Ie, a guitar body? and that the white and orange pads for the 90 are similar to what's shown? The festoolusa site is not displaying any accessories for me right now, so I can't confirm.

thanks.

. If you mean the 80mm polishing pads, then no, not the same as Vlies.  Orange pads are medium foam, good for all around polishing compounds and paint sealers plus swirl removers.
The Vlies pads are like 3M Scotchbrite pads in their material.
I'm more familiar with the larger 150mm polishing pads, but I thought the RO90 gets most of what's offered in the larger sized versions. Now I have to look. [embarassed]

This is how I envisioned using Vlies…

I'm using General Finishes Water Based Polyacrylic

I got the idea from this video, it's very similar to what I'm experiencing, fast forward to about 8:40 of the video.

I use GF Polyacrylic at times, if it does not flow out completely you are not applying a thick enough coat. Do not over brush the product, do not use a roller.
