Hi Everyone,

I have been asked several times to look at moisture meters. I have used several but never owned one myself. I took advice from some serious woodworking professionals that I know and also did some research on the internet. One name came up several times, Wagner, and they kindly arranged for the supply of one of their meters through a UK outlet.

Here is the video:

Your timing couldn't have been more perfect Peter!  I was considering either This Wagner, or the Lingo? I think that seals the deal.  Wonderful demo as ALWAYS!

THANKS Peter as always! I have had this meter in my Amazon cart for a while now, now to find someone to buy it for me!

I have had that meter for a loooooooooong time (they had just come out).  I haven't used it as much as I thought I would and probably paid more than they are now.  Great tool.

My friend, whose workshop I was in in the video, has had his Wagner for so long that it has a meter on the front. It still works as accurately as ever and he uses it a huge amount - you may have seen just how much wood he has in the video. He buys whole trees at a time and tucks them away, sticked up, for years at a time.

Peter have you considered getting in touch with Lignomat and Delmhorst so you could provide a comparison of the top moisture meters available. Also a comparison of pin versus pinless. Also a good explanation of how to use the moisture meter in conjunction with temperature and relative humidity would be very helpful to those considering a good moisture meter. Most of the time the meter readings by themself are not enough.

Hi John

Many thanks for the ideas. I do not do comparisons of kit as it can be quite subjective. I am not a fan of the pin type meters as they do damage the wood and if you have pre-finished but just need to do a check it can be awkward.

Cheers.

I  can't remember where I found it but there is a review of many meters of both types (pin and electric field) on the Internet.  The wagner one came out  very well as I recall. I couldn't afford one so bought a Timbermaster.

Hi Cliff,

When I did my research I may well have read that review that you mention. The reviews that I read and the input from professional friends clinched it for me.
