Well, could use some advice. Should I purchase the large MFT now or wait for the new ones to become available.

Read Marino's post on new table, seemed nice but not particulary exciting.  Am I missing something?

Will be building storage shelves and cabinets in garage and closets for daughters family in CA in April. Have to take all my tools from here (CO).

I am beginner ww and with Festool 55 saw and 33 vacuum. Will buy a sander and router later. I mostly build simple cabinets, furniture and more elaborate chests and boxes for gkids.

Your thoughts?

Tks

Hi,

Welcome.  I see that you read Bob Marino's post on the MFT3. Have you done a search for other posts on it?  There are several threads.  Your question seems to be the one that many have. Some are even buying old MFTs before they are all gone because of features that they like better. Ultimately I am sure that either one will be good. I don't think you will get a difinetive answer  before MFT3 actually comes out and gets used by people. If I were you I would read everything you can find on both here on the FOG. When reading posts about them, keep thinking about what you will be doing with it. And perhaps that will help guide your decision.  Also if you want the smaller one (MFT800) for portability you might want to get it now  , if they are available anywhere. Who knows if Festool will even come out with a new small size?  I am thinking  not. Because the new one seems to be in between the old ones.  Hope this helps :-\

There's nothing wrong with the old one. Unless you're the kind of guy that would bribe somebody to get a new cell phone first, the new one won't make that much difference. Only the new fence is really remarkable, and the function of the old one is pretty much the same. Get a good price on what's out there. My .02

I'd say wait if you don't currently own one...  Why "start" a potentially a collection of MFT"s if you can't grow/add additional units?

If your currently own an MFT and want to add one...  You either find an old one that connects to your current table, sell your old MFT & start over....  Or end up with two odd "Systems".

In my case I have a jumbo (approx. 45" x 79") plus a 1080 linked together giving me a work surface of about 45" x 117"  I don't see any reason to add a odd table that would not connect to my current tables unless the new table adds significant functionality.  I don't see that with the new MFT, it's more of a lateral move giving me not much bang for the buck.  To me I am much more interested in seeing a Walko Table when it's available in the USAhttp://www.walko.nl Lighter, more portable and it seems way more functional.

Jim,

Thanks for the link to the Walko portable worktable.  It does seem to have awesome capabilities that stretch far beyond those of an "old" MFT, or even a pair of them.
