Walkie-Talkie Radios - Motorola T80 Extreme

I was not going to create a thread for this but then I had a comment from a chippy who says that they will be useful on site...

A while ago someone asked me to take a look at walkie-talkie radios. I must confess that I forgot about it until I met some hikers using them. I don't have any radios of my own but managed to borrow some in order to make the video.

Hi Peter.
Great review. Weirdly we have exactly the same radios and bought them from the same outlet. We find them so useful. Mobile phones don't work around here so if one of us is out on the croft we can still communicate. Or if Im in the workshop with the radio on! my brew doesn't go cold when it's been made for me!

Also useful for when we are driving in convoy when we have visitors, so we can point out the tourist sites/interesting things for them to see.

By the way, how's your NAS doing? My NSA325 just failed, a year out of warranty. Not sure how I'm going to recover my data yet.

Usually I will review anything that I buy so, in a month or two, expect to see a Pure DAB digital radio and some other non woodworking kit.

My NAS is doing brilliantly. I have not tried to recover from the failure that you describe but would imagine that it might be possible to put one of the HDs in a vacant bay in a PC. If that does not work then you may be forced to buy another NSA 625.

Please PM me with your solution so that I can pass it on to others. If you hit a brick wall then PM me the email address of the Marketing Director of Zyxel in your region and I will see what I can do to help.

If you think tools are highly regulated by countries, radio communication is even more complex since each country can assign radio frequency use to different bands in the radio spectrum. This means what can be used in the UK for personal communications might not be the same as in the U.S. This usually occurs with radio controlled photography equipment but it also applies to radio control equipment and other devices. So check with your local retailers for the availability of the equipment in your respective countries. If you buy through the internet make sure the equipment you are purchasing can be used in your country.

That is good advice. I stated the European Union position and the radios in the video are fine here.
