Think im going to buy the Makita BO6040 as its £214 at FFX plus vat so the festool is twice the price.

Any one used the Makita abrasive sanding discs vs festool sanding discs as the makita are half price they look the same and holes are same.
What options with assesories should I get, Sanding discs, polishing discs ext

I will only use 2 weeks a year not in one go. So cant justify the Festool price.

Both have 3 year guarantee, both sand, both polish.

Maketa make good tools but the bo 6040 will not be in the same league as the ro150

what accessories you need will be dictated by the intended use best to have it all...

Why do you say its not in the same league? Have you used both, they have similar spec.

I own and have owned many makita tools and they are generaly good quality I do not have a bo 6040 but I do own the ro150 feq and it takes some beating

So how do you know the festal is far better you aint tried the Makita BO 6040?

Experience.... [big grin] if you want the makita go and buy it, I'm sure you will be happy with it, I have only expressed my opinion.... [2cents]

Go and try them both if you want facts first hand.

Also, if you can't afford the Festool ... you're a Makita customer!

Dust collection WILL be superior with the Festool and Festool abrasives ARE superior.

I've seen video demos of the BO6040 and it looks rough and I can't imagine using it for extended periods.

Why not also consider the Bosch 1250DEVS ?? and probably others out there.

The RO150 is the superior tool in this sander category. From the spec sheet, the Makita will probably look similar to the Festool ... just like a 4 cylinder Hyundai will have similar specifications to a 4 cylinder BMW.

People are saying festool is better but without using them both, Has any one had actual experience and not what others have said on a forum.
After buying as TS55 after people said its good Ive had a different experience, my £50 saw has more power but not the track.
Also the TS55 has been into festool repair under warranty for 4 weeks hows that for poor service.
So Im put of spending twice the money I should for festool after bad experience.

What about:
Bosch GEX150 profesional vs Makita BO 6040

There is no where local to me that sell the festal, makita or Bosch.

You can try an Axminster Store.
They list the Makita, the Bosch as well as the Rotex models.
At least when one of their stores is nearby.

Hi Peshi. I'd recommend the Metabo SXE450. I've got one it, it's a real work horse, had it for 8 years now. I went on one of these forum meet ups with few guys bringing tools together to compare. We compared the fessy, metabo and mirka side by side. The Metabo with abranet disc on has best dust extraction even better than fessy. RO150 is lighter but needs a learning curve to control. If money wasn't an issue I'd buy the mirka.
The metabo and fessy RO150 leave swirl marks so unless you've got lot of patience you are going to need a finishing sander like makita or metabo 1/4 paper palm sander at like £50 so not bad.
Mirka abranet discs are brilliant but buy backing disc saver thing. I was in a bit a fix on job one day when velcro backing pad gave up so to get me by I superglue / mitre mated the mirka pad saver onto machines pad. It's still works brilliant after year of abuse. [wink]

First rule of choosing a tool is to define your use.
Second rule of choosing a tool is ignore the specs.
Third rule is try to ignore the brand even though you will find that difficult. You can usually rely on Festool to produce an excellent tool with a few that may be just acceptable. Other brands have lots of great tools and lots of bad tools.

WHAT kind of work do you expect the tool to do? If you are looking at a general use tool including finish work, both of those are bad choices unless you are looking at spec sheets. Do you understand that dust collection with a variable speed vacuum is a must for both?

If your budget is around $300 and you want one good sander for general use including finish work, I would start with a ETS150/5. The RO150, B06040, and the Bosch 1250DEVS are all pretty nasty for coarse use.

Dust collection on the RO150 is much better than the Makita B06040. The Bosch 1250DEVS is as good, or better, than the RO150 on dust collection when they are used for coarse work. I've watched both being used at the same time cleaning up the outside of wood boats.

A Bosch 1250DEVS and a ETS150/5 cover a pretty wide range of uses for me.

Its difficult to define what I want to use it for. Every thing from smoothing rough timber to smooth stuff for painting or varnishing. Polishing would be nice but not sure if I would use that.

I dont do work for other people only my own projects so wont get allot of use.

I have a vacuum for dust control, its a Karcher not festool but very happy with it.

Think i'm going to buy the new Bosch GEX 125-150 AVE, it comes with a pad so I can use festool sanding discs if required.
I just need to make sure I can get an adapter to fit my vac, Could do with a longer hose to to fit TS55 and sander to my Karcher.

Would be nice to find somewhere that sells hose and adapters.

That is a new line from Bosch designed to compete directly with the Festool ETS150. It is 4mm orbit - exactly in between the 3mm orbit ETS150/3 and 5mm orbit ETS150/5.

I've held one in my hands and it felt heavier than the Festool ETS150 and seemed bulkier. They are so close to the price of Festool equivalent that I can't see how they will sell since the Festool is a known product.

That is designed as a finish only sander, slightly more so than the ETS150/5 I would normally suggest as a first good sander for most people.

Well after all the advise i've now decided to buy the Festool ets 150/5 EQ plus 240v
Seen it at powertoolworld.co.uk for £257 inc VAT
Any one seen cheaper?
Any on ehad dealings with this company?

There discs are cheaper as well, what discs shall I order? for general use, sanding sone cedar frames for wardrobe doors i'm making, also for mdf prep and between paint coats, skirting board, window cills.

What about using to give the van a polish?

Hi Peshi
I'm sitting here near Horncastle with a brand new RO150 I got from Powertoolworld last week.
They're selling a bit cheap because they're no longer selling Festool when they've got rid of the stock.
I gave them a ring to see if the RO was still in stock and had a nice chat, then bought on line. Give them a call.
Delivery was as quick as anyone else so no worries on dealing with them.
I'm happy to buy Festool because second hand values are high on Ebay if you look after the tool. I just sold my
RO90 (too small) for nearly what I payed for it.
As a painter I only use Granat or Brilliant discs. Can't quite work out which are best!

Paul.

Hi Flashman
I bought from Powertoolworld as they were clearing there stock.
This is another example of companies like festool, Apple, Bose, Kinetico all price fixing.

What sort of painting do you do? Do you have an airless sprayer? I have a new build thats just being plastered out and need it painting.
Airless sprayer would be useful as the 2nd floor has 4m high vaulted ceiling.
Would you be interested in giving a quote?
