WANTED: live/work space Toronto

I need a new home by Aug 1st, preferable a place that will allow me to run some saws on the weekend for my own projects. Prefer the west end of Toronto, but I'll go East if the space is right. Thought I'd post this in the off chance anyone in the GTA knows of anything.

I'd rather live in the west myself but the prices are much higher in the west. Have you been checking MLS? I'd recommend Scarborough (south of Kingston Rd. between Markham and Brimley Rd.). Happy hunting! Oh and hunting season doesn't start until Spring.

Live/work space went bust for me I ended up just grabbing an apartment in Parkdale, right by BMO field and the TFC which I followed for the first three years until my fears of Maple Leafs Sports Entertainment owning them proved to be real and it the same ownership management bumbling that they seem to pull off with all their teams yet still turn a ridiculous profit.....

Well, if you start looking for a workshop again, consider sharing a location. I've been looking for a workshop (wheelchair accessable) to share for a number of years. Maybe with a few others, it might be possible to set something up. I live very close to Yonge and Bloor and would consider any location that was within 30 or so minutes TTC travelling time.

This city is tough to get something affordable. Let alone something wheel chair accessible. My problem is, my shop doesn't make me money so it's hard to justify the expense. I'll keep you posted if anything pops up though.

Tell me about it. I've been looking for more than fifteen years for some location. However, I've seen a few shops, not really large, but suitable in the $1000-$1500 range. I figure get four of five people together to share the costs and it could be workable.

Big trouble is with all this condo boom going on, little shops and buildings that would suit someone like me are being torn down for redevelopment.

Thats exactly what i experienced while looking all the old live/work spots are gone and shop space as a whole is tough to find at a reasonable price. Of course, as most 99% of my work is done in film production shops, I'm not making money in a shop of my own and as such can't justify the expense. have you looked into the "Wood Collective" off of dufferin and queen? it's a shared shop space and you essentially rent a bench off of them and storage for what tools you want. Myself I didn't investigate too hard as i wanted some solitude while i cut my fingers off (KIDDING!! Not doing that again!!!!).

Yes I did. I actually went down there a few times to investigate possible shop space. The problem was travelling time. I do ride the subway and take buses. From Yonge and Bloor where I live, it takes me upwards of 90-120 minutes to get there. The Bloor and Dufferin subway station is not wheelchair accessible.

There are plans to make it accessible in 2014 and there are also plans in the works to covert street cars (in my case I'd need Queen street street cars) to be wheelchair accessible. So, the future holds promise, if I'm still young enough and healthy enough to take advantage of them.
