Warranty for "out of region" Festool products

Matalin touched on an interesting topic and I'm not certain if it's been discussed openly before.

It there a definitive Festool warranty policy on products purchased from a different Festool sales region?

Matalin's example was buying a Festool cordless drill in one country (let's say UK), then moving to another country (maybe Australia) and subsequently experiencing a tool failure. What would Festool offer ... or is it in the hands of each region independently?

(Festool Australia is not a wholly owned Festool operation, unlike US, etc)

I had just about posted in the other thread about this very thing.

Festool does not warranty any tool sold in another country, or at least that's true in North America. I would suggest that you contact your local Festool office for information on their policies but I suspect they will mirror ours.

And, it's very easy for a Festool subsidiary to determine where the tool was originally shipped based on serial number.

Hmm, thats interresting. Festool in Finland has accepted every registration I've done and has sent me the warranty registration letters on all tools that I've purchases both from Finland as well as UK and Germany.

Would that have something to do with the EU and free movement of items within the region?

I can state definitively that Festool USA will not warranty any tool not sold in the U.S. or Canada.

Currently, Canada is serviced by Festool USA. For that reason, tools sold in either country can be serviced at either country's service centers.

Interesting food for thought - and thanks for the answers RE USA festool shane. I'm still of the opinion any cordless tool is a global entity, and warranty should be looked at like that - the parent company should have a reciprocal agreement and bill repairs to the local region if it's a registered tool.

The bottom line is this would be a moot point if there was more price parity on a global level - you'd tend to sell your tools then rebuy at roughly the same prices with local warranty...

Since Festool Canada now says to send tools needing repair to Ontario I'm assuming that what you said above about Canadian service being handled in the statesis no longer the case. Does that mean there is no longer a North America-wide warranty?

"Festool USA" is our company name. Someone was short sighted when they chose that because we now also operate in Canada. So, when I say that "Festool USA" services tools for Canada, I meant this business entity called Festool USA. We have had a service center in Canada for several years now and that location has been servicing the tools for Canada for quite some time.

Any tool purchased in the US or Canada will be warranted by the US or Canadian service center.

So I'm curious...

If a user purchased a tool in - say - Greece, then relocated to the USA, would they have ANY options for warranty. Not sure it would be worth it (would depend on the tool and the cost) but could they still ship it to the Festool service center that covers Greece? Or would Festool reject the package because it came from out of their region?

Or might Festool USA consider things on a case-by-case basis? With the world becoming smaller every day, it seems like for every legitimate 'rule' there is a legitimate exception.

I guess the separate .ca website made me think there were two business entities. Any chance of ever getting a repair facility here on the west coast? It sucks to have 5-7 days shipping to Ontario on both sides of a repair; kinda negates the promise of two day repairs...

And how about some sweet training sessions up north here? Send Gary Katz up here, please!

We do not have a promise of two day repairs. We state that our goal is for the tool to be repaired and returned within 48 hours from the time it is received. This does not include transit time in shipping. I don't know of any plans to add another repair center at this time, but that can certainly change.

Also, I don't know of any plans to offer Festool training in Canada. We are required to conduct the training in our own training facilities and we do not have a training facility in Canada. Sorry.

Gary Katz is an affiliate of Festool and he creates his own event schedule. I would encourage you to reach out to him via his website if you'd like to see him in Canada. Of course, the more people who contact him from the Canada, the greater the odds of him considering it.
