I have a garage renovation I'm in the middle of, and I'm trying to figure out an exterior wall detail.  It will be framed with 2x4's, with pressure treated plywood, and a 36" door in the middle of the span, it's maybe 11' at the most wide.  The client wants a cedar feature wall to clad this exterior wall, and then wrap the rest of his backyard.  The feature wall is no problem, I am just trying to figure out how to go about waterproofing the PT ply, so that I can then put some cedar strapping on the studs, and then put the 1x2" cedar strips horizontally.  Ideally behind the cedar strips will be either painted black, or have a black material to really have the cedar pop.  Would roofing felt over the PT plywood be adequate? The roof overhangs the wall by approximately 6".

In short, this is the order:

Studs, PT plywood, some kind of waterproofing, strapping on studs, 1x2 cedar detail.

There is a specific brand of system that uses a membrane on the sheathing that is attached with rainscreen strips that you nail the cedar to.  The installation I saw was all black.  I had to match the detail for the garage doors, but since it has moving parts there was no point in trying to apply that system to the door.  I attached battens to the panel, sealed them, then painted the panels before applying the overlay.

I am afraid I don't know the name of the product/system.

The system I saw did not use coroplast for the battens.  The membrane had a tight textured diamond pattern on it.  It looked good close-up, and great from far.  I'll keep an eye out, and if I come across the manufacturer or product name, I'll drag it back here.
