I bought a set of Ohishi waterstones from Lie Nielsen along with a diamond steel flattening plate.

Any sage advice on using them?

I like the Shapton ceramic stones and accessories (Sharpening pond, sharpening holder, and Shapton Diamond Reference Lapping Plate).

These also only require a splash of water, and to do that, I purchased this inexpensive water spray bottle, that works extremely well.

I prefer this style because once under pressure, all you do is pull the trigger.  You don't need to constantly squeeze the trigger like on a Windex sprayer.

For me it is just like sanding.  Work the grits.  Make sure you are not carrying over coarser grits when you go to the next stone (this is where the water bottle comes in very handy).
