Weekend project

Thanks for the post JCLP, this really really is quite beautiful thanks for posting the instructions too. Gotsta try out my new DF500 and this really looks like something for me to try to get comfortable with it.

Starting the next version of serving platter. Cut the pieces of walnut, cherry and hard maple and came up with this pattern. each piece is approx. 3"x1". Time to get the domino setup and bore approx 160 holes for 80 4mmx20mm dominos.
Cheers,
JC

Nice work and a very pleasant looking cutting board.  I would like to offer a word of caution to whoever is going to use these cutting boards based on a Christmas Present I gave family members many years ago.  I made maple and black walnut cutting boards that were well received at Christmas but a month later I got a call from my older sister requesting some help with a slight problem.  It turns out that she put the cutting board in the dishwasher and the dissimilar wood properties split the thing wide open [eek]

Completed serving platter. Sorry not a nice photo as I only had my iPhone handy. Size is 24" x 11" by 5/8" thick. Not sure if I like the colour of the cherry used. Maybe it's the pattern of the blocks that is messing me up. Oh well. Lots of scrap wood to make another one.
Cheers,
JC

You really whipped that out fast! Looks great, too!

I'm curious as to why you wanted it so thin?

Thanks Wow. I went thin because I wanted to use it as a serving platter and found that 3/4" looked too bulky. When I decide to try a edge grain cutting board, which could be this weekend's project, then I will keep it thick. Also, thinner looks more elegant then thicker. Does that makes sense?
