Just a suggestion, and you may already have considered it, but anyway,

best might be a thread containing posts from both Mathew and Festool for a proper balance
and to show members all the sides of the story, well at least those wanted to be disclosed  ;) ;)

By the way, messages including this one are dated July 03. I guess we are July 05.
Some kind of time warp effect somewhere  ;D ;D ;D

what a pity that everything is about greed and money on both side

because that's what the story is all about isn it?, i am kind of amazed that none brought that up

I was ready to get a kapex this weekend, I am going to pass for this and festool in general,
i dont see why i  pay premium to hear this kind of story,

no thanks
cheers

Steve,

With due respect towards your indignation wouldn't it be prudent

to at least wait for a explanation and give all the benefit of doubt?

Just sayin.

Per

Steve, it might be best to wait to hear the details before judging the parties involved. Per beat me to it.

I'm not going to make judgements either way. I just don't have enough information.  I'll just say I'm glad this quality site is back.  I'f I'm ever going to talk myself back into that Kapex, I'll need it.

I am pretty confident I captured the essential of the story, I feel confortable with my decision, I tought Festool was expensive in general, on some tools i can understand, on some other like accessories, Festool is having customers paying much more than a premium, read systainers and other accessories.
for the rest of the story, I think Matthew knows why Festool did this , and this is pretty obvious to me.
so no offense to anyone, I won't campaign to prevent anyone to buy  if they feel like it.
but i ll stick to my decision and feel good about it
cheers

Reminds me of the old expression, "Don't confuse me with facts, my mind is already made up".

Personally, I think we should see what Matthew and Christian have to say, read it, and then move on.  The less hype, imagination, rumor and supposition, the better, IMHO.  I think there was some sort of disagreement, the parties got together and compromised, and now things are resolved.  What more do we need to know?

Let's just wait to hear the full story. In the past Festool has been very accomadating to the forum with tools for contests and also technical support. Mathew in return has spent allot of time making this forum what it is today.

Let's just be happy to once again have a place to post and wait for a deeper explanation before jumping to conclusions.

I have to admit that my first thought was that Festool was trying to take over the festoolownersgroup.com domain name, after exchanging a couple of emails w/ Festool I am convinced it had nothing to do w/ greed and am further convinced, based on the facts I received, that they were trying to be fair and above board.  I'll say no more at this time, but one definitely shouldn't jump to conclusions without all the facts.

I have missed everything that has happened.  All I know is the site was down for a couple of days.  Can someone fill me in?

hmmm, Probably best to wait until the second installment of the notice below gets posted.

"THERE WILL SOON BE A POST EXPLAINING WHAT HAPPENED OVER THE PAST COUPLE OF DAYS THAT CAUSED THE FORUM TO BE SHUT DOWN.

IN THE MEANTIME, I AM ASKING EVERYONE TO PLEASE JUST GET OUR COMMUNITY UP AND RUNNING AGAIN.  LET'S FOCUS ON WHAT HAS ALWAYS MADE THIS FORUM UNIQUE."

Don,
I promise, there will be a full explanation soon.

Oi!  I wouldn't let a family spat influence me one way or the other on a purchase...... especially for a $1,300 saw!  ;)

Either you need it or you don't.  Even if Festool was just really buggering Matthew (And I'm not saying they are!) I wouldn't let it influence my choices. (Sorry Matthew) ::)

Bingo!  Although this site or should I say the members who participate on it, have graciously given me a multitude of great ideas on how to spend massive amounts of money on fantastic tools, I wouldn't let a dispute about a website keep me from buying something that I thought could help me with my diversion.  The tools stand on their own.  I originally saw my first Festool at Woodcraft but I learned about Festool here, the quality and precision they bring to woodworking.  This is easily my most visited site and Matthew has done a great job with it.  I can't saw for sure if the Kapex is in my future or not but my decision to get one won't be based on whether or not the company has a legal dispute with this site or any other one.  That would be crazy!  What information you guys can share is the important issue to me.  In other words, if it's good enough for you pro's, it's more than good enough for me.  My .02 ...

I'm just glad this place is back up and running.

I'll hold no grudges against anyone for what happened.

Let's get back to business.

Matthew,

How soon is soon? I noticed from the WIPO website that the case is still active...

Jonny,
Christian Oltzscher and I have discussed this.  I have the good word of Christian that the complaint has been withdrawn, even though it still appears on the WIPO site.  From what I understand, it can take a couple of days for requests to appear on the WIPO site.

Christian and I are working on a joint statement about the whole thing, and it will be posted soon, hopefully tomorrow.
Matthew
