well just finished this one today...  if you will notice and I am sure you will.. it is off center from the coffer ceiling.  dah... well originially the customer wanted it so far from the window so a chair will go their... so I placed the 3 lower cabinets where she wanted them, and showed her how it was off center and that it should be moved over so it centers under the coffer ceiling.. she agreed but wanted her husband to decide.  well he thought it was fine where it was as it was centered between the wall and the window and since the tv was going in their and the couch would be there etc, then leave it where it stands today.

I think once they decorate it all up add furniture etc, it will not be that bad,  I will know as I am going back in several weeks to do 4 mudroom bench, desk, storage cabs etc.  so I will see and post some pic.s

oh well onward to the next built in.. have  3 more to go plus the above cabs and a small bath remoldel  busy busy.. great

Another nice one Kreg. What do you use as the cabinet material ? being as they are painted MDF? or Plywood

all birch cabinet grade plywood and popular for the trim except for the crown is store bought and the raised panel in the doors is mdf. and styles and rails are popular.
i buy 5/4 popular usually ripped one edge straight and then random widths.  very good price about $1.45 to $1.75 a bf and then rip it up to stock I need usually 3" wide for most pieces and a full 3" !!  except doors are 2 1/2"

and that is how I do it.

cabinet us built and then primed then sanded and then painted.

What are you doing for the paint? I just showed this to my wife as the finish I was saying I liked for new kitchen cabinets.

Noah. Enamel undercoat from behr purple can. Sand. Then Sherman Williams super paint semi gloss interior

Then mini roller white and yellow roller they sell at hd  and brush.
Sw also sells pro classic oil or water base that is excellent
Except you need to cut it as it drags if you don't cut it not much but some

Looks very good.

In your experience, would there be any added benefit to spray the paint on over brushing to minimize brush strokes?

I'm trying to learn if there is an added benefit to create consistent, uniform finish with spraying the paint vs paint/sand/paint/sand.

Thanks!

As somebody with extensive experience in both spraying and painting, I'd say that nothing beats spraying. Takes more time to set up and clean because of all the masking you have to do but the result is far superior, especially for furniture. The actual application of spraying the paint is also a lot quicker than brushing it on. It is also easier. Painting without brush strokes can be done, but it's really going into the realm of craftmanship there.

That's very helpful Alex. Then what is the best way to spray - air compressor vs high vol low pressure (HVLP)? What is your go to paint - oil vs latex? Also, what are the better brand paint guns you recommend?
