What are your thoughts on Used Festool Valuation?

I picked up 7 MFT-3 for $100.00 each (full kits not the basics). I did have to drive from western Indiana to western Ohio to pick them up. It was a pleasant trip.

I've also got a second CT36 AC; it was more used, got it for like $300 bucks; the catch was it was used in a Marijuana grow operation, so a couple years later, it still has an "aroma" when i use it. My wife and I get a good laugh about it every time i use it. I had to wire brush a bunch of the sticky portion of the weed on the underside of the motor. I could take the time to really properly clean it, but i'm too lazy.
Yea, that would be high maintenance

Wow, that is a nice price.

I thought I would add to this old thread since I was out looking at old Festool again today.

Went to a "barn sale" where the seller had gotten a literal S-Ton of tools from an estate sale. It think he got everything. But in the pile were two old classic systainers that had a 2006 OF 1400 and a 2007 DF 500. They had been used and the Domino had quite a bit of sawdust residue. I asked him what he wanted for them (he's not a Festool user) and he said the DF500 new is $1600 so he'd take $800, and the OF1400 is $1200 so he'd take $600.

Exsqueeze Me???

He asked what I was willing to pay and I told him $200 for the router since it's from 2006. He's said he was sure someone would come in and pay his asking price. I was okay with stepping away from that.

I'm interested to know what you think of these "deals"? Am I unrealistic? I was in the mood for a ridiculously cheap deal, like $100 for each. I know that's typically unrealistic. From what I've seen, the 2006 price on the OF1400 and DF500 was $700.

@onocoffee His new prices are above what they currently cost! And his for sale prices aren't anything I would jump into the car for either.

OTOH, I think you came in low for your counter...but that's usually the start of the bargaining process. Didn't sound like he was too interested in haggling though.

I agree. I was low. However - and I could be wrong in my position on this - I'm less enthusiastic about bidding "competitive" used rates for a tool that is nearly 20 years old and can still be had new as the current model. If it's a tool that's desirable and out of production, let's say the LS130, RS2E or even the RAS, then I can see some reason to go higher. If I wanted to spend $600 on an OF1400, I can get one that's somewhat recent and in a SYS3 systainer.

And as I'm reading through this, my apologies if this came off as argumentative. That is not my intention.

Definitely not argumentative, the prices he wanted I think are ludicrous given the age. Although having said that, I did sell my 40 year old Rotex pretty quickly for $250 last year which I thought was pretty amazing!

No apologies needed. ;)

I probably would have been in your frame of mind when chatting with the gentleman about his items and prices. And, as you pointed out, you can probably get something in newer/better condition with all accessories for at or below his asking prices since those tools are still in production.

I just saw a DF 700 for $700 that I snoozed on. 😭

There's a guy I see on marketplace whose listing comes across my feed from time to time. Same Rotex and it never sells. He's got what I believe is the original Rotex 150 (the one with the green twist selector on the side above the sanding pad) and wants $500.

I think my RO1E pre-dates his then, as the only thing on it that was green is the Festo logo like the attached sample pic! Basically a beefed up angle grinder with a sanding attachment, aggressive beyond belief and incredibly uncomfortable to use for long periods. I was stoked to get $250 for it!

Wow, this is the first time I've seen a pic of that version!

It was heavy, it was big, and in geared mode you absolutely needed the side handle attached as it was uncontrollable otherwise.

But I used it very heavily for around 40 years on all manner of projects!
