HI, I was working on build a small shop cabinet over the weekend and was using my domino 500. I decided to use the rail and style type construction for frame of the box cabinet just to play around a bit. I went to use the trim stop accessory and this small part fell out and I don't know what it is or what it does. I didnt really have time to play around to much but i finished the side panels and put everything away.

what is this extra part?

I don't think it has a purpose, just cosmetic.  I hope not anyway; mine keep dropping out and I think I've lost one...

It does serve a purpose, it becomes evident when you place the machine upside down on a bench or workpiece.

Yes and they are an inexpensive replacement but note there is a definite left and a right. After one on my Domino 500 came off and rolled under a timber stack my friendly dealer down here was able to order replacements from Festool AUS.

Now 6 months later, that stack will soon be moved. Wonder if I will find the original!?

Call Festool Service. If you look in the manual, there are 2 parts, as Untidy said, and they both have part numbers. Only 1 of them was loose on mine. I called service and they sent out 2 but they were both for the same side. Just to let you know, if you need both, be sure to give Service both part numbers. Even  if it doesn't serve a real important purpose, it shouldn't just come out and you did pay quite a bit for the tool, so just let them know. As always, they are very responsive.

They are also what holds the fence face onto the fence body. So as one of our Australian members discovered, if you remove them, you can make your fence go a little bit higher than normal. Or of course completely remove the fence.
