Ok, so I bought my Festool setup a while ago and have used it for DIY stuff.  This was part of what I got, but I have no real idea what it is for or how to use it.  I believe it is called a trimming attachment, but google and you tube has failed me in my search for some demonstration videos.

Hope some of you guys can give me some direction.

Here is my table that it is supposed to work with

What you have is a Basis table. This preceded the CMS. The fence that you show is used with the stand to trim long pieces using the sliding saw module, that I think fitted an ATF55 saw, in a similar way to the way the Mafell Erica does.

It looks like you have the sliding saw module on the RHS of the table but I can't tell if its the sliding or fixed one.

The original Basis modules are superseded but the new CMS modules which will fit your table but none of them include a saw that slides. The CMS table is also at a different height.

I think that I have identified the parts. I think that the fence is a Basis KA 2000 #483691 and it is designed to fit a Basis 1A or 2A module.

It is a crosscut support for long pieces. You connect it to the side of the Basis table.

I could not find a picture showing it on a tablesaw, so here's a picture of a version for the Kapex with one on each side, but it shows how you're supposed to set it up. I hope you got all the pieces.

Hmmm
yes, basis table
yes I have the ATF 55 saw
it is a sliding table, knob to pull it out on the other side.

I have no kapex, so am still at a loss  ::)

your pic shows 2 support legs for it, I only have one.  few bits on one of the boxes that I haven't really figured out either, so hopefully they are what is required for attaching it
when you say support for long pieces, do you mean that I would attach it to my table, and basically rest long pieces on it as I am cutting them?
I wasn't sure if my saw should be sliding along it somehow

You're fast approaching two years since you first posted about this kit! ;-)

The attached PDF is going to help you. The "trimming attachment" is used in conjunction with a pull saw like the CS 70 or with the "trimming saw insert" for the BASIS system. I assume you may have the latter?

With that Kapex picture as example, you really can't imagine how you would attach one of those to your basis table?

Like I said, I would have prefered to show you a picture of how it attaches to a tablesaw, but I can't find one on google pictures.

You only need one. You attach it on the left hand side.

Exactly.

Ok, since a picture is better than words, but no one is available, I shopped this little thing together. Hope this makes it clear for you.

meant to post here a while ago to say thanks to you guys
I figured out what I had and more or less how to use it.
It appears I might be missing the angle gauge.... not sure of the correct name for this
i do have another on though.  It won't attach on so what I did was manufacture something :)  must look out for the correct angle thing if anyone might be able to tell me the correct part name it would be great

the other thing i seem to be missing is there is a little half way ledge, this is a bad piece to be missing as i have discovered.

It looks like you have an older, non telescopic version of the trimming attachment.
If it works the same as the newer one, you can attach it directly to the angle guage of your fence, instead of clamping it on (turn the knob, slide off the short fence, slide the trimming attachment profile on.)

I have the version that came with the kapex set, and use them with my cs70 aswell. I ordered a couple extra of the black support ledges that attach to the underside of the profile, and having those makes it much more practical.

/edit: I read over your post too quickly the first time, where you said it wouldn't attach to the angle guage directly; I noticed in the first picture that it looks like there's  a couple strip inside the groove of the trimming attachment, so maybe it attaches via that somehow.

/edit 2: Found this manual for the basis trimming attachment, but it's a different profile then the one you have (this one is like the ones I have: link
