As a consumer you are a lot better protected against fraudulent merchants with a credit card since all the brands (Visa, Mastercard, American Express, JCB, Discover) have very stringent charge back protocols (i.e. you notice something out of place within 90 days you just call up your bank and they recall your money if there is double billings, goods are not delivered, etc.

I'm guessing that the apparent reluctance to using a credit card is the potential to build up unsustainable debt on them. I pay the entire balance of my credit card off every month now, but in the past I have experienced that crushing debt load.

However, as one person said, their credit card has been compromised more than once and it's a pain to get it fixed, even with a compliant company. I experienced that same pain this past Christmas. And, it is a pain too. The more one uses their credit card, the greater the chances that it might get compromised. I'd guess that's another reason why you're not getting as many people choosing credit cards are their online payment method.
