When is it a tool and when is it an accessory?

Hi
Is there an easy way to determine what is a tool and what is classed as an accessory?
The latest voucher promotion here is discount on tools only and not applicable to accessories.
For example I'm sure a new TS75 is a tool but what about the CMS insert for the saw?
Vac sys will be a tool but what about the MFT bracket for it and the additional heads?
Cheers
Scott

Thanks and that makes lots of sense for registration / warranty etc.
Wondering if any way to determine before purchase though, from catalogue or on line etc.

And how about the 'sets' - the tool with additional accessories - is that considered to be a tool for the purposes of the voucher?

My confusion on this issue was highlighted by the fact Festool did not include the
Festool 497471 CT Workcenter WCR-1000, in it's current 15% off for dust extractors/accessories sale.  Yet, on many dealership web sites, it is found under their dust extractor accessories page, and when you see a picture of one, it is sitting on top of a Festool Extractor.

@ $388.00 full price, the sale would have been a huge incentive to purchase one.  Since it is not on sale, I am in no hurry and will wait for their "you think it's an accessory, but it's not" sale.

If it's a set that is sold by Festool and not put together as an incentive by dealers, then it is eligible.

The WCR 1000 is part of the "Workplace organisation" sub-section of products not "Dust extraction". Although it is more often seen sitting atop an extractor, it can also be added to the Multifunction stool MFH 1000; together they become the Universalcenter UCR 1000 shown below.

That is where my mind ended up as well, even though in this country at least, it seems to be joined at the hip with the extractor.  Looking at the catalog, it seemed to be listed as an accessory for the stool, which I suppose technically it is.  I was somewhat disappointed however, as I had planned on using it as an alternative to a boom arm (air venting in my shop rides lower than 7ft in spots), to keep the hose up higher near the work surface.  I also felt it was much more "portable" and would allow the extractor to be wheeled around much easier, as my shop is in a large "L" shape, and I like to vacuum the concrete floor to keep dust down.

If I miss too much, l will just bite the bullet and pay full price.  I like me a sale however!

Festool's definition of a tool my vary by country. The easiest thing to do is just ask your dealer if you're unsure.

But, at the simplest level it's anything that's powered by electricity, battery or pneumatic. In the U.S., some additional products that have serial numbers are classified as tools such as the MFT, WCR, and Kapex UG.

Well, I just learned something new!  I did not realize the WCR had a serial number!  I guess that means it can be registered as well then.

Shane, I am expecting my sleeved hose and CT mounted tool holder (my alternative to my alternative to the Boom Arm), to arrive today, from your neck of the woods....I just checked tracking and it is "out for delivery".

I don't know why, but I am really excited for that sleeved hose.  I think it has something to do with the fact that while I was vacuuming off the top of my table saw, the hose was rubbing across my chest and it felt like sandpaper (ouch)!
