Hi,

It will be nice if we can come up a data sheet which indicate when a tool is been updated. Something like below:

Product: Rotex 150
Recommendation: Product just updated, good for all time sanding...
Last Release: September 05, 2007
Days Since Update: 47
Manuals:
Recent topics:
10/06: RO 150 or RO 125 (link to the topic)
10/03: Cristal paper
09/27: RO 150 or ETS 150/3

Thanks.

That's a good idea. I doubt you'll get your hands on any future release info, (since it all seems to be hard speculation), but we can certainly keep records of past updates.

Can we identify changes as occuring with particular serial numbers and date of manufacture, as is often done with automobiles and other products?

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I learn a lot from you guys. I think that's why I keep coming back here.

There is a new concept about knowledge sharing called Wiki.

wiki from wikipedia says:

A wiki is computer software that allows users to easily create, edit and link web pages. Wikis are often used to create collaborative websites, power community websites, and are increasingly being installed by businesses to provide affordable and effective Intranets or for use in Knowledge Management. Ward Cunningham, developer of the first wiki, WikiWikiWeb, originally described it as "the simplest online database that could possibly work". One of the best-known wikis is Wikipedia.

-----------------------

The knowledge base is built by who he/she knows about the specific topic. That will be really nice. A place all woodworker can contribute their ideas and experiences. The idea is "the more we share, the more we all gain".  It is harder to learn from our own mistakes. It is easier to learn from someone else. Much faster.

A festool wiki... that's a dangerous idea.  :)

If anyone wanted to play around with one, I could probably set one up that people could mess around in to see if it'd be worthwhile - although I certainly couldn't commit to administrating it.

It might be great, Wikis tend to complement forums very nicely...  as anyone who's done development with Ogre3D would know.

Yeah, I've been pushing the notion of a Wiki for a while here too! I think we'd need agreement that it'd be okay to copy across and edit large swaths of discussion threads here, but it'd be nice to have all of the various tool tips and notes in one place, and the common pro-and-con on TS55 vs TS75 and "which router?" threads in easy to find places.

I thought I'd seen a Festool Wiki on the web some time ago - I've just tried to find it again, and after a much-harder-than-it-should-have-been search, I found out it was Dan Lyke's site!!!

Yeah, but the only thing I have there is an inventory of the tools I've got. I ought to break each of those out and do some more detail on 'em, but I'm working two jobs right now, haven't had the Festools out of the closet in weeks  :'(, and am just trying to stay sane.

That latter part is kinda tough 'cause I didn't start that way  ;)

I remember FOG discussing this subject before, but maybe not under the label "wiki."  I wanted a better way to locate and consolidate information that I thought should be related and appear together.  A problem with the wiki approach is that information that appears to be authoritative and reliable may not be.  In contrast, with the present format on FOG, anyone can state his/her view of the facts, experience, and opinion, and those remarks are identified with the particular author of the post.
