I getting to a point where I need a track saw and would hate to buy a TS55 and only a few months later the REQ version come back out. I really want a lighter weight saw so the TS75 is not an option for me right now.

anyone know whats going on?

Im guessing it will not be anytime soon, but who knows.. Shane has gone to Germany are the two thing linked? yeh..probably [wink]

I'm pretty certain that Shane's trip is not related.  Right now Festool is in the waiting line for the CPSC to finish up with all the paperwork that has been submitted.  Once that step is completed I imagine that we will get some news.  Until then they have to follow the CPSC guidelines on what can be said or done during the waiting period which is why none of us are hearing anything.  They aren't allowed to say anything more than they have at this point.

I can definitively say that my trip to Germany has absolutely nothing to do with the TS 55 REQ. I'm just the web/FOG guy. Although I think I'm well respected, they wouldn't fly me to Germany to talk about the REQ.  [blink]

I'm here for meeting about software implementation and to meet with colleagues on the web team.

I get the sense that the REQ situation may be resolved much sooner rather than later. Thanks to everyone for their patience and understanding for what has been an inconvenient situation for many. I promise you that as soon as I can, I'll post all the details here for all to see.

I have owned and made a lot of money using TS55EQ since January 2006. During trips to Europe I had the chance to use the TS55REQ. Those have some marvelous added benefits, but for my use, breaking down sheet material, the TS55EQ works swell.

Yes, I did pre-order 2 TS55REQ. All of my employees wanted to try them, assuming eventually they will replace the TS55EQ. One of those never was removed from its T-Loc. The other never caused any trouble.

My suggestion is that for 90+% of users, the TS55EQ fills the need. I also own 2 TS75EQ, but the only time I use one of them is when breaking down very thick plywood, or straight-lining 50mm plus thick lumber.

By the way, because I am an employer, as soon as I learned about the TS55REQ issues, I returned them to Festool taking the option of having them repaired and certified whenever that happens.

The 55EQ would probably be fine for what I'm doing, but I feel like it would be a bad investment to drop the 550$ on what will be "outdated?" old saw when I can get the new version and all the features for 45$ more.

....Or you could share the same optimism that both Shane and I have that this will finish going through the appropriate channels sooner rather than later.  [big grin]

Another option would be to purchase a reasonably priced and gently used EQ from someone that wants to trade up to the REQ; whenever that would be.

Right now in the USA finding a new TS55EQ is not easy. Only a few dealers have them in stock.

Consequently the selling price of TS55EQ has climbed through the roof. Just this week strangers have begged me to sell one of my used TS55EQ for more than the list price a few months ago when they were discontinued.

Now that is interesting...  Since I have Sawstop for all my sheetgoods and such, and I do want to "trade up" at some time, I may be able to do without my TS55EQ for a bit... Hmmm..... ;)
