Where oh where is that thread about large layout squares ???

Sometime around perhaps a year ago there was a thread about very large (4 to 6 feet) layout squares.

The key here is that they were collapsable and quite accurate for the size.

I believe they were American made. (I don't believe they were the line by CH Hanson)

(It's the one that resembles a 30 /60 triangle - with the longer side being about 4 to 6 feet)

I'm involved with a couple of  renovation projects and I need something with more accuracy then a drywall square.

(It's a construction site so I don't want to pull out my large MFS set)

thanks,

Roger

I have one that I purchased a couple years ago from McFeelys. not sure if they still carry it.

Are you thinking of ASquare?

It seems the company has disappeared but Lee Vally carries it  and some outfit called "Contractor's Tools" (I'm not familiar with this company so I'm not recommending them, only using them for their pictures).
ASquare

The size of the ASquare is 3 foot x 4 foot x 5 foot and folds up.

Steve and everyone,

That's it exactly!  Thank you,,,, now I just have to do a little poking around to order one.

Next question, any suggestions on a solid 24 inch (45 degree) framers square? Not unlike the 12 inch models that are at all the box stores in plastic and aluminum.

cheers,
Roger

Square? What square? I don't see a square! Oh, there...

[crying] When I ordered mine, I sure thought she came with it.
They also make or made a 24" version that I have and found to be really useful.

Hi Roger,

I know you were looking for a reliable framing square in addition to the giant one, but you might also consider the 18" triangle square from Woodpeckers. I have two of them, and they're very precise. I know they are discontinuing them (at least temporarily), but based on the last email I received from them, they still had a few left. Good luck!

If you e-mail Woodpeckers & get on the list they are also going to make a limited run of squares with a 26" blade.

I tried to order the woodpeckers 18 inch carpenter triangle from there last email a few days ago and they said they were all gone.

Ronwen,

What kind of square are they going to make? is it a 26 inch triangle square?

They didn't provide much info in the e-mail -- just that it will be similar to the 1281 square with 26" x 16" dimensions.
