I need to pick up a larger miter saw. I have the Milwaukee M18 7 1/4. Love it. But I do need a bit more capacity. I'm debating between the M18 10" 2734-21hd or the Makita XSL06PT. I know I cam get the corded Dewalt dws779 12" for $350, but I think I want to stay cordless and I dont really need something as large as the 12". What would you buy? Maybe sometime in the future as I take on more custom wood working instead of just remodels, I might consider a Kapex.

Hi, I have the UK version of the Makita XSL06PT in my mitre saw collection, and I really like it.
If you were thinking about a Kapex, hold fire as the new improved model is coming your way in October I believe?
Back to cordless though, we have almost completely gone cordless with our mobile set ups apart from a table saw. I have a few Makita mitre saws, including some cordless models. The above as mentioned and also the smaller 36 volt DLS714Z I cannot fault either, the DLS714 doesn't have a laser so I fitted an arbor nut type and it works great. The dust extraction isn't as good as the the XSL06PT either but, ok.
The XSL06PT has pretty good dust extraction and is generally a decent saw albeit quite heavy. Our was pretty well set up and square out of the box.
We use the smallar saw for a lot of the work, as for it's size, it has a respectable width and depth of cut, and great battery life. For the big stuff we use the XSL06PT, and if you're buying one saw, that would be a good choice.
I have no experience of the Milwaukee saws.

I have the flex volt 7-1/4" DeWalt and absolutely love it. Spot-on out of the box and it cuts beautifully. I assume the 10" will be similar quality.
Full disclosure - my use is DIY and limited to simple stuff in the shop, no crown molding in my repertoire. I also recently settled on the DW 20/60 volt system to replace my old tools so it was a natural fit. Actually more of a "where have you been all my life baby?!?" moment when I stumbled upon it.

I have the Milwaukee 10" m18 with two 9amp batteries I got marked down for $300 and like it a lot. But I also am all Milwaukee m18 m12 battery platform. I would try to stick to one battery.
I have both the milwaukee and makita batteries. I've sold or given away all my dewalt cordless tools. I love my m18 7 1/4. I've heard great things about both and I like the option of being cordless. It may just come down to the best deal I can find between these two..

All things equal, I would lean toward the Makita. Milwaukee's HO batteries may as well be another niche battery platform. They are heavy and bulky, so you're only going to use them when an XC battery just won't do it. The fact that Makita's saws are also damned good, that would seal the deal for me.
