Which Dominio for 1 1/8" material

Hi,

I'm making a screen door out of 1 1/8" thick white oak. I have both a regular domino and an XL at my disposal so I can use any size I want. The top rail is 3" high and the bottom is 4" high. The stile is 3.5" wide.

Would the joint be stronger if I stacked two smaller dominos, or should I just use one thicker domino? In other words 4 smaller dominos per joint, or two larger dominos per joint?

Also, this door is under a porch and will never get wet, do I need to buy some Sipo Dominos or are the standard ones ok, with Titebond III?

Either would work fine.  But, I'd go with the larger if you have access to it. 

A screen door has little diagonal strength, so you are relying on the tenons to keep things tight and prevent any sagging.

Titebond III with regular dominos would work fine.

Thanks for the replies. I was just looking at the 14x 140 mm and realized that since my top and middle rails are only 3"(75mm) wide, and the 14mm is almost 1" wide, I can only do one per joint. That's not how I wanted to go but the lumber is already cut to size and ready to be joined.

At least it's a screen door for my house so I can look at it as a joinery experiment I can monitor over time.

Put two in side by side. That will act more like a conventional M&T and stop any tendency to twist.

Using the "rule of thirds" I use a number 10 Domino for 1 1/8".  I switch to a 12 at 1 3/8".  Sometimes I will make my own Dominos for a project, particularly if I would rather have a wider mortise.  I can cut my holes on the wider setting and make the tenon to fit.  I have an overwidth 1 3/4" door made of Mahogany that I made some oversized 14 tenons for.
