Insurance settlement and investigation might.  I'm just throwing that out there as a plausible explanation for a similar situation.  I have no specific knowledge, so until we're given all the facts, why jump to any conclusion, positive or negative?  It doesn't do anyone any good.  I hope this doesn't turn into a sister, Carvex debate.

Neil, I never intended to bring the Inca quality
into question. I too have those you mentioned.
After 30 years I'm just now looking to replace the
j/p. I was just being a bit facetious.  [big grin]
I think one of the problems with Inca was  that it was made
for too few of people with small shops willing to pay a high price.
We'll see what happens with Ikeda.

So Ikea bought Akeda?  That explains a lot!  [tongue]

I also read somewhere that Akeda was up for sale and they were looking for someone to buy them over.  The fire if I recall happened close to 2 years ago (+/-) and about a year ago they were looking for someone to buy them. Then they were looking to consolidate sufficient orders so that they could get the jig made by some third party.

The order that I tried to call in was their attempt to assess the business demand.  I guess since 8 months has passed with no contact back from them, I have to assume that their assessment is not very promising.  I am afraid there is not much hope for this, in this troubled economic times.

your timescale of 2 years plus is closer to the truth, this is why I do not undersatnd what is happening as the metric version of the jig
is available and always has been.

id say trend is probably buying the rights to the design and getting it made them selfs

The differences between the Leigh and Festool dovetail jigs have been discussed before however some advancements to the Leigh D4R Pro with single pass half blinds have improved the speed and setup time.  However, Festool is now selling the vs600 base unit for only 275$  (being discontinued in the US).  I'm aware of the limitations and advantages to both.  I still can't make a decision...so I'm going to let the FOG decide for me (please vote above)  THANKS!

Have you taken a look at the WoodRat?
