Hey everyone!

Can anyone suggest a good all-round sander from Festool? someone i spoke to mentioned they have a dual action sander (orbiter and belt?) which is great?

Thanks in advance!

hi tony.

i highly recommend the ets 150/5.

it is my go to sander for most jobs.

the range of grits is fantastic.

the rotex you asked about, is a great sander, but as a carpenter and furniture maker, i have no need for the rotex.

Thanks Justin!

I've just had a few people recommend the exact same sander, so looks like that's what ill be going after :-)

Cheers for your help!

Tony

The 150/5 was my first Festool too and it is a great all around sander.  I have added a LS 130 in the last year and it is a good straight line sander.  My friend just got a Rotex 125 this week so we will see how he likes it too...his first Festool also.

i bought a ETS 150/3 as my first finish sander. You can sand a long time without any tingling in your hands. It is just magnificent.

Next I purchased a Rotex 150.  This is a brute and with its two modes can be very aggressive or somewhat gentle.  Another great sander.  Way better than any belt sander I have used and very controllable. The best part is that both of these use the same size sandpaper.  Something to consider when you buy your second sander--which you will ;D

I also have the  RS/2 sander which is great from sanding large panels flat.

I am also considering a LS 130 which may be useful for sanding curves (as in moldings).

Good luck in your decision.  You wont go wrong because they are all great sanders and definitely a leap over anything else you may have used.

As  a carpenter and furniture maker you don't need a Rotex? huh? I guess you don't need anything, but I certainly would want one.

I use one Everyday. And the 150/5 is NOT the sander I use for fine finish work, I use the 150/3 which gives a noticeably better finish than the 150/5. I sold my 150/5 as soon as I used the 150/3.

I think any cabinet shop or furniture maker would want both the Rotex 150 and the the 150/3 and possibly the RS2. I have all 3 and others as well and really couldn't live without any of them.

I just recently purchased the 150/3, and I love it. It's certainly not very aggressive, but it's definitely a capable little sander, and a pleasure to use for all sorts of tasks. I chose it over the 150/5, since I plan on getting the Rotex 150 down the road as cash flow allows, and the RO mode on the Rotex also has a 5mm stroke.

Mike,

Great help! - looks like im going to need more than one sander eventually, as im doing such a wide range of sanding... but the 150/5 or the 150/3 both are good for what i need at the moment.

Thanks guys!
