Which sander for top corner of stair riser?

So I have a RO150, RO90 and an ETS EC 150.

I've stripped some stairs and was going to use the RO90 delta pad for the corners but it's too long to do the top corners of the riser. I really wish you could set the delta point in a different position.

Can the DTS 400 get in there? Any other options?

Cheers
Dave

Do you have a Multimaster or other OMT?  You could use a triangle sanding pad on one of those.

The DTS would be your best, shortest tool, most oscillating tools would be about as long as your RO90.

I have an old Fein Multimaster, dust extraction is not as good as festool.

I guess that's probably what i've used in the past as you can orientate the point to where you want it.

Maybe the DTS is worth it for these jobs?

Actually, would the RTS work? How does that do on it's corners?

Going to depend on riser, if it does just remove hose and vac up dust.

If you're going to be doing this often, then look for an older DX 93. The pad doesn't rotate like the Fein but it will clear up to about 1 1/2" of tread overhang which means you'll be working from the top of the tread/riser and then going down.

A DTSC with a bag will also work except for about a 1/8" triangular area at the top corner of each riser and that’d be easy to clean up with a block.

I can't picture this.  Can't you just use the RO90 horizontally instead of vertically to do the top corner of the stair riser?

  Picture?

Here you go, I can do what you suggest but right in the corner, there is just a tiny little bit that the rotex can't get to. In the end i used the multimaster. exctraction 'sucks' and i've lost the little plastic spacer so did it one handed and held a hose nozzle close to it.

One thing that suprised me was how much better the Fein was at getting a crisp edge against the painted wall string compared to the RO90.

Thanks everyone.

I've recently done my stairs, the DTS was used for the risers and could reach everywhere. My risers are about 16 cm high. I do a lot of painting, the DTS 400 and the RO 150 are my go to sanders.

Oh, yeah, I see. Well sounds like you got it done.  As Alex says the DTS will fit.  I wonder if a 90 elbow on the hose connection would give it enough room. Still have the Plug- it in the way but maybe that is short enough.

I'd just scrape, then hand sand that tiny remaining area. Have we forgotten the old ways already?

Removing the hose may gain a little extra and there is nothing wrong with keeping the end of the hose near the part you are working on to suck up dust.

This ^^^^^

There are some outstandingly good manual scrapers out there which will get a better job done in a tenth of the time. Mine is a Stanley - 4 x exchangable tungsten carbide blades, strips off around 10 layers of paint in seconds, doesn't damage the surface in any way, and costs pennies in comparison.

Also - don't forget that the now-outlawed world's #1 paint stripper (Methylene Chloride/Dichloromethane) is available online in whatever quantity you need from most any chemical or solvent supplier - and at crazy-low prices. My 5-litre bottles come from a well-known auction site beginning with the letter 'E'. Spend an additional few £££/$$$ on a quality respirator, open your windows wide, pour it on, and watch the magic happen .........
