hi all

i have a big scms dewalt718. happy with it. the problem is that it is very big and akward to carry up stairs .
can anybody reconmend a small chop saw . all i want is a basic saw in a good brand. there is no need for a slider but if it was there i would not mind.
o want it for doing small jobs like wooden ceilings , slips , odd architrave, mouldings etc, basically any job that doesnt warent setting up the big saw

any reconmendations. my buget is around 200-300 euros

that looks like a nice saw but has a lot of features i dont need. i was looking at its smaller brother on axminster for 220 euros. it only cuts 130mm (a hair over 5 inchs) but thats ok for what i want it for. i has good reviews and looks ok.
any one have any thoughts good or bad , or another saw to look at.

I have the Makita that Guy mentioned.  Its a cracking little saw & so light & easy to carry around.  This is the one i would get again if looking for a small saw.

Looking on that site, AEG miter saws look a lot like  "our" Ridgid brand. Anyone know why they are sold as 2 different brands?

BTW, I have the Ridgid 10" (nonsliding) and it's ok, I honestly use the Makita LS1013 all the time, it's soft start and quietness is very nice.
For a 10" non slider, I would buy the new Dewalt (as much as that hurts to say) it's a nice saw.

Hey you are right, I recognize some of the AEG tools as the same as Ridgid I have seen. Does that mean that those AEG tools are also from China, same as Ridgid? I suppose so.

I few years ago when some of the Ridgid tools were made by Metabo, in Germany, they were a great buy. Ridgid price with Metabo quatilty, what a bargain. Now that Ridgid seems to be all China, I don't know if I would be a buyer.

I have an AEG ( Germany) planer, and have always had a good feeling about AEG.

It seems just going by the brand, one can no longer tell where a tool is made, at least with Festool, we know it's all Germany. I hope I am correct in saying all Germany.

PS Festool management, if any of you read these boards, please keep Festool made in Germany, don't even think of Festool made in China.

I was told that Ryobi owned Ridgid  [eek]
Their warranties are good but I don't buy tools for their warranties.

went into local tool shop . they had dewalt 703 saw for 250 euro. does anybody have any experience of this saw. i read that it has lots of good reviews. what is the dust extraction like.

By the way Ryobi does not own Ridgid.  Ryobi, Milwaukee and AEG are owned by, TTi. http://www.ttigroup.com/business/brands.php
Incidentally tti also owns Hoover Dirt Devil, Homelite.

Some Ridgid tools look so similar to some of the above brands, because TTI also makes some tools for Ridgid, and also other brands like Craftsman Sears, and Mastercraft, and who knows how many others.

To return to the small chop saw, you guys there in Europe, what about Electra Bechum, they used to be good tools from what I remember.
