Who Misses the MFT 1080?

I know Festool disontinued the MFT 1080 due to the tooling issues and have given us the MFT 3 as a replacement.

The new MFT 3 has some pretty cool features like a much better angle guide (stronger, swivels both ways), improved working height and leg stabilisers. Apparently it will mate better with future products as well

One thing it lacks is the ability to use clamps in the top of the extrusion

Are their any features on your old MFT 1080 you wish were on the new MFT 3?

Just looking to get some opinions

Cheers

Okay Dan this is probably going to sound wierd but I miss the weight of the 1080. Unlike a lot of the guys I do not take my MFTs anywhere so I have my three 1080s down in the shop basement along with my MFT/3. I would just like that additional weight on the MFT/3 along with the stabilizers. That would rock?  ::) Alright maybe not rock but remain even more steady.  ;) I too very much miss the ability to use the clamps in the top of the extrusion. Fred

What about sandbags around the MFT 3 legs?

Dan, other than tripping over the sandbags I guess that would work.  :) Fred

Are you sure you are ready for a honest, and I mean straight up opinion

on my 1080 and how much it was used in real life compared to the MFT3?

And guys who love their 1080s, that's cool. But in my method of work,

after the first time I took it to a job it was its last.

And by using the clamp below the the edge you can still clamp on it, Dan.

Now I also have the basis Fence deal for the 1080, rather then that other deal,

But because it sits in the shop..... well, you can understand how flat surfaces get cluttered. No?

I don't miss it ...

- For the height, I use wood blocks,
-  For the fence, I use a home made one, guaranteed aligned with the hole pattern, guaranteed square with the rail,
and with a scale, zero point of which is the kerf line (http://festoolownersgroup.com/index.php?topic=3523.0)

OK, I might miss a VAC-SYS if I need one  ;)  ;D and ....
the ability to buy another MFT/1080  ;) ;) ;) ;)

is Festool going to continue to stock replacement tables for the 1080?  Mine is getting pretty chewed up.

7 years guaranteed for spare parts ....
You can also build your own, just copy the hole pattern as described by Jonny Round Boy

If your 1080 is becoming a storage area and you have the basis fence I'm sure people here would take it off your hands  ::)

Patrick,

I am sure they would.

But I 'am that guy who's first significant toy was a Stanly hand drill.

Circa 1963 [attachimg=#]

I still have it.

Kinda funny that way.

Then every dang time the minute I don't have a certain anything,

is the time when I need it to make a buck.

Same here. Last night as I was packing my stuff after an installation my client quipped "you sure do carry a lot of stuff".

I do. I figure the only thing worse than not having the right tool for the job is having the right tool for the job, back at home.

Well I'm on the road delivering the first of my shed units.

I've brought the mft1080 and the ts 55 and rails as its all I have festoolwise. I've also got 2 buckets of gear, a hitachi bag of stuff and a veto xxl. I'm hoping if I don't have it I don't need it but we'll see how that goes.

Good luck! If you get in a jam get online and give a shout. There might be someone nearby to help.

I have 2 1080 and teh new mft3 lets just say othere than the fence that you can replace with a la650 and the added hight there is no benifet.  I acctually am using the old 1080 instead of the new one at the moment becuase it is more stable and I have 2.
