Some have dinner at the Rathskeller tonight (7:15). A few of us are at the Holiday Inn across the street from the 6. I'll post here when we get to the hotel.

Arrived a few hours ago and checking out the sites in Zionsville until the hotel room is ready. Downtown Z has some excellent restaurants and shops.

Just got to Lebanon- any restaurants you'd recommend Bob?

If you want to stay in Lebanon, most of the options are over in town if you head east on 32 and turn north onto 39 (or Lebanon St). Then go a few miles and you'll run into most of the restaurant choices. Parky's is one of my favorites in town, pulled pork and chicken. Also, El Mason Mexican which is across the road from Parky's. There are some other choices in that same area along that strip of road. Once you get to Parky's, that's the end of town, so turn around. Nothing but corn fields after that.  [wink]

I was in in downtown Zionsville earlier - ate lunch at Rosie's - which was quite nice. But that is about 15 miles out of Lebanon.

In Zionsville, one of my favorites was the roasted wings at Friendly Tavern. Also, Carolina Grill is good with an awesome tap room.

Plenty of good options over on Michigan Road which goes down to where some folks are staying on W 86th St and Traders Point. Lots of options about 2-3 miles east of the Traders Point area on 86th.

The demos and hands on are great but there will be a cultish feel to it that is somewhat creepy and much like what I imagine any specialty convention would be (Comic Con, Star Trek, etc). It's amplified by the tool collectors versus the hobbyist versus those who are in the business.

Don't get me wrong going once has its merits and gives you a perspective of FOG membership.

Disagree. I was there and had the pleasure of meeting with lots of people - Festool employees, Fog moderators Pete and Seth, my customers and other attendees as well as listening in on various tool demos.  I did not get any hint of  koolaid drinking or cultism, just of nice bunch of people grabbing some free knowledge and having a great time.

Not sure how close you are to Abuelos on 86th street but I am there now.

I had originally planed on attending Festool Connect, if for no other reason than to meet the people behind both the posts I read, and the purchases I make.  However, since I had just attended the Festool Roadshow recently, I decided to wait until next year to attend.

I don't agree with your statement regarding a "creepy and cult like" atmosphere, and suspect it was no different than any other trade show I have attended over the years, where like minded people gather to exchange information, and learn about the products being displayed (with some social interaction thrown in for good measure).

Personally, I do not differentiate between "collectors", "hobbyists" or those "in the business".  Each group has a common interest and in their own way, help contribute to the success of the brand. 

The only regret I have is that I missed this years phase one of the recon-sale, and then only because selection and availability was probably at it's highest level.  Having said that, I can assure you that my wife is glad I stayed home and did not spend any money this weekend. 

It is my intent to attend in 2017 and suspect it will, as it already has for some, become an annual pilgrimage for many (ask me how many years I drove to Louisville to attend the annual RV Motorhome convention in the 1980's).
