Why are these brackets not made for US extrusions?!

I am going to be making a miter saw station out of aluminum extrusion with Sys-AZ drawers and on Amazon they have a lot of 40 series european style fasteners for a fraction of the cost of 8020, Faztek, etc.

In particular I love the look and simplicity of this three way corner bracket. Is there a reason this isn’t made for 15 series or other US extrusions?

The dimensions of the part that goes in the t-slot is just different enough that it wouldn’t work well in US 15 series or 40 series.

That's the power of standards.  It allows third-parties to make something that works, and doesn't rely on the first party to make said connectors.

That would be an expensive production tool to make. If it's a die casting, the cores would have to pull from 3 different directions and there'd likely be some additional 2nd operations that need to be done.

For small quantities, CNC would be the ticket.

Thanks for the replies! Makes sense. It just seems like it would be a popular fastener if they made it even if it was expensive. It requires no machining of the extrusion and looks great. It even eliminates the need for ordering a decorative endcap.

It’s amazing that the Chinese companies on Amazon can sell these for just a few dollars a piece. I may order some extrusions from those same companies just to use these

I like your idea. If you're interested I have about 50 AZ drawers that I'll be selling soon. All are in mint condition and 3 have never been used.

[member=70011]edwarmr[/member] 80/20 does make metric extrusions. The 40 series is metric and those connections should fit well.

The metric series are probably a bit harder to find on the secondary market like eBay but they are available.

Don't just assume that one manufacturer's hardware will fit on another manufacturer's extrusion of same nominal size.

[member=3192]rvieceli[/member] The problem is that the 40 series extrusions from 8020 have some differences and the corner brackets wouldn’t fit flush. I can however buy the extrusions from the company that makes the brackets. But then I will have to cut the extrusion to size which gets messy vs. having 8020 cut it for me.

.... that just shows the standard gusset and brackets.

You want "t-slot three-way corner bracket" but as the OP noticed, it's only for EU standard profiles.  National/proprietary profiles won't necessarily work with it.

edit: Openbuilds profile system does have a similar 3-way, but of course their V-slot profile is different
