Why the Rotex is one of my 4 favourite Festool products.

Been  using  a rotex 150  sanding  oak  straight from the planer  with 240  grit  in rotex mode  then straight to  varnishing.

Maybe I'm doing something wrong  but I don't see a reason  to  go out of rotex.  Just seems  bloody quick.
I've thrown my old metabo in the junk heap. [big grin]

I leave mine in geared mode 99% of the time. Love it especially with the optional front handle
