Wide Boards !

In an era when a 12"  board looks wide ..... I found these at my lumber dealer.

Maple.

The red rule is on an almost 12" board. The 13 1/2" looks big the 17"+ looks huge !!

And they are clear !! And  flat !!! 

Ten feet long.

Nice score Seth!  I have some superwide puirpleheart but haven't seen maple or any domestic woods like that in a loooooooooong time.  Hope you don't have to plane it. [unsure]

Really nice! They look fairly flat.
What's the thickness? The look like about an inch or so.

They are 13/16" thick. 

There are two or three more 13+" wide available.  If someone is close enough and wants them let me know.

I had to have a talk to my hardwood mill about wide boards.  Every time I go in all they had were 12" to 18" wide lumber, oak, maple, poplar etc. 

I don't trust using a solid piece of lumber that wide.  I will some times buy them, but will rip them into narrower boards and then glue them back up for things. 

It gets tiring facing a pile of 14 to 16" wide lumber before sending it through the planer.

Great find Seth.  I still have 18" teak and 24" wide Honduras Mahogany Boards in 4/4 and 8/4  rough stock just waiting for the right customer.

A few years back I was working for a commercial wood flooring company.  We had a project involving and auditorium at an old high school in Chicago, Ill.  We ordered 5/4 red oak material from Raynor and Rinn Scott in Bedford Park, Ill.  we wanted 12" and wider material for stair treads.  Some of the boards were 21" wide and 17' long. We had and 18" planer and had to rip the boards down before we could thickness plane them.
