Will the domino 500 be ok for my needs?

Ditto on the scrap wood practice.
I used some scraps to practice for a few minutes.
1st pair of joints came out just a mm or two off.
2nd try: Made a couple of procedure changes and second set came out perfect.
I was frothing at the bit to put together a rough cabinet i was working on.
A total mess.  I put the cab together with pocket screws :-(

Will spent a little more time this morning gathering scraps and dimensioning same.
Will try doing several different sized dominos and with different circumstanses.
I think I know what I did wrong and will try again.
and again
and again.

All the pieces are already dimensioned for the matching shop cabinet.
We will see if practice makes perfikt.
I think it is bound to make better.

One other benefit of the 700, is the pins. The pins are fantastic!  3 on each side and they are brilliant.

I can use them with the exact mortise setting and they fit like a glove. When I tried the paddle style on the 500, I wasn't really impressed.

I put glue on the full mortise and also cover the domino tenons with a light coating of glue.  If I have a large assembly to glue, I'll glue in the tenons on one half of the assembly and if I'm using the larger width mortise I can take my time and and carefully place them in the center of the slot.  Then with the final assembly you don't need to be concerned about the dominos shifting.

No, it isn't. The Domino 700 is much better for these projects.

Hey guys, thanks for all the input.  It was split as expected.  Finally decided on the 700, and I'll just tackle smaller casework with a combination of housed rabbets and the Jessem dowel jig I have.

I think you will find the DF700 suitable even for smaller projects.  Just buy the Seneca cutters and adapter and your good for all size projects.

I think you will love your new Domino, let us know how you feel after you use it.
