Just finished building 6 gun racks for my club. Wonderful project in that I got to use lots of my neat tools and serve a good cause.

Got to use Kapex (a lot), PSBC 420 jigsaw (battery unit), TSX, CSX, TI15, C15, T18, OF1400, and my Sawstop Industrial table saw.

Used about 300 decking screws, 22 1X6X8 treated boards, 12 2X6X10 treated boards, and 3 1X6X10 decking boards.

I made 15 of these gun racks in 2008 and they are still in use. Back then, I didn't have a Kapex. Using a Kapex allowed me to work in my shop as opposed to outside (bad dust collection on the old miter saw).

The only use we'd have  for something like that  here in the UK  would be  for storing our  garden tools.  Like rakes,  spades, shovels etc.

Nice work. I read this thread before you posted the photo and was picturing something far more traditional, but your more rustic version has an oddly appealing design aesthetic.

They also look very robust, heavy and solid, which I guess is a pretty important characteristic in a gun rack holding big rifles. Wouldn't want one of them falling over with a load of loaded guns, could result in a nasty accident... (pictures hollywood slapstick style bullet ricocheting making a ping, ping, ping, ping noise [big grin]).

When the treated wood dries out a little, the racks will be stained the color of the decking tops. They will not look so rough.

These racks get banged around, moved, sat on, and weathered. They have to be very robust. Not graceful, but very robust!

The racks that I made in 2008 look mossy and aged, but they still are sturdy.

Most of my woodworking is high precision small stuff envolving exotic woods. Doing rough carpentry is fun for a change.

P.S. I shoot in Scotland every year. There is a grand hunting history there involving some of the best shotguns made in the world.

This took me by surprise. I thought you were making gun racks for the wall. They certainly look heavy duty enough for outside use. For shotguns?

I like it.
My friend in NoVa has a sporting clays range I often get the honour of being taken to.
Those racks look ideal, in a Bauhaus sense where, "form follows function".

I don't like gun racks that don't provide a stable secure place for my gun. My racks protect the guns. They are not pretty, but the do the job.
