Wooden counter suggestions?

They look great. The only reason I did not use them was they seemed to have a lot of filled voids and the ones I saw used a pinkish filler that looked like Bondo. From your photo it appears like these did also?

Boggle me why the had so many voids at the end of pieces of wood, seem like they could have avoided this if they cut/laminated the strips properly. [scratch chin]

Anyway, great looking outcome on your project.

Yup. Tons of filler.  Overall when the countertop has nothing on it it looks fantastic but when you start really studying at you see all the filler. Not really happy with them and would never use them again for such a big project. Although it was very inexpensive

From a value perspective, I've had good luck using pre-finished slabs from Michigan Block (http://www.butcherblock.com/) that I get through a distributor.  I seal cuts and cut-outs with the "Good Stuff" product they recommend.  Price-wise, it's comparable to a laminate countertop with a lot less labor.
