Woodpecker OTT-Precison Framing Square Redux

This is one that I wanted before I got to the price at the  bottom of the page. Many options but the larger the better. I may have to get steel toe work boots for the shop in case I drop this one on my foot

She's heavy and she's a beast but to own her is to love her. I use this one a lot. Large, clunky and heavy but it was a great investment when I purchased it in 2012 at $169.

Almost as good as the Starrett square with the 24" scale, but I think the Starrett is now over $300.

FWIW...From 2012...One Time Tool - Precision Framing Square
After the tape measure, a framing square is probably the most frequently used tool in most woodworking shops. So why settle for a flimsy, lightweight square with questionable accuracy?

It's almost blasphemy for me to consider a OTT, because of my feeling on the go to market model ... but I'm a little interested [embarassed]

I'd be looking at the metric set.

Hey [member=13058]Kev[/member]  I have a 300mm woodpeckers square and it's awesome

With that converted to AUD $720

Thats for one set
2 sets wouls put it over 1000 and we would have to pay gst...
There
2 sets are 350US SHIPPING

https://www.shipito.com/en/?countrycode=AU may be an option

Would be nice if all their squares looked the same.
Some handles have pockets and the 1281 has a hole in the blade.

Stuff it I ordered a set of the 450 and 660 just like harvey norman buy now pay later. It is only money and its coming out of the business account anyway, I will just jack up the price on a couple of jobs to pay for it.

As far as Woodpeckers goes, it's well known that the only joke bigger than the OTT waiting game is their international shipping prices.
Tragic really...

I have one from several years ago, which is off square by 1/8" over 26", so I've been waiting for another run so I can ask if I can exchange it for a new one.

I have a good number of Woodpecker's tools, but I've had some bad luck with their accuracy. My 52" hook rule. 32" T-square and 36" rule don't match up to each other, so I can't switch rules in the same project.  Very disappointing. My 1281 square is spot on, however.

[member=29138]Steve-Rice[/member], you may want to contact them. I believe most/all of their products are guaranteed to stay square for life.

Crazy that you have these issues, I don't recall ever reading or hearing about issues with accuracy for their products.

I think they have some extra stock of most OTTs.

[scared]
Shouldn't they just replace or refund it any time regardless? Why wait, it's unacceptable even for a plastic $1 square.

So much for all that "precision" hype.

Perhaps, nobody checks and takes their word for accuracy + confirmation bias. Being used for woodworking a deviation of 0.01" over a foot will hardly be ever noticed.

I use my Woodpecker "framing square" often as I do their other squares. Each of of mine have been dead on square.Their tools are expensive, but a good value.

I guess the Australian shipping is more expensive as the airplanes have to fly upside down in that part of the world. Down under, right?

I always check their stuff after I receive it against a Starrett square. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.  [smile]. The last thing you want, is to have cut a bunch of material and then find the square was off.  [crying]

Here are some photos of attempting to show how the 52" hook rule did not line up with either my 32" T-square or my 36" rule.  I sent these photos to Woodpeckers back in 2013 and they graciously replaced my 52" hook rule.

To be clear, Woodpeckers has shown excellent customer service and that's why I continue to purchase tools from them, but needless to say, it is quite disheartening when the precision falls short.
