Woodpecker's Parallel Guide System One Time Tool

See Richard Hummels response to my inquiry:

Malte,
Unfortunately there isn’t enough real estate to put both scales on the track. However I did add metric versions of the PGS on the web page. I should have done that before, just screwed up.

Also, although we won’t put it on the web page, customer service has the information to add just track or track with connectors if someone calls in.

FYI…
TRACK SET (inch or metric) $69.99 – Includes full set of either inch or metric without an extra set of connectors.
TRACK SET W/CONNECOTRS (Inch or metric) $114.99 – Includes full set along with connectors. Perhaps more convenient. Can leave both sets fully assembled.

Thanks for staying in touch.

Hadn't heard about the Precision dogs system, so I just took a look.  Have to say that it seems pretty well thought out too with some advantages over the Seneca system the last time I saw it.

For those that have used the Dog's system, can you explain this use of it as taken from their website?

Why are the bars attached to the stops in this picture?  Why is the far bar attached parallel to the Incra track and the nearer bar parallel to the festool rail?

Julian

Julian. The two long black bars can be used in three fashions:

1.  You can use it (like in the foreground) to have a wider area of support against the back of the workpiece. This is beneficial if you want to make cuts on a really long workpiece... Say an 8' run from a 4x8 sheet of ply.

2.  With it going perpendicular to the rail (like in the background) you can use it for short stock that is less than the depth of the rail. This is good if you need to rip small rips and the workpiece ends up smaller than the rail depth.

3.  Don't use it at all!  It isn't a necessity but it comes with the kit and is very useful when you need them for the above situations.

Feel free to PM me if you need any other questions answered. I have used mine off and on for a few years now and really like it.

Cheers. Bryan.

Ps:  neither of the black bars are attached to the rail or incra tracks. They attach to a small saddle that is provided with the kit. It is how you set you stops.

The more I look at this one, the more I really like it.  If I had my druthers, I would combine several aspects of this set along with some other ideas.  There is no perfect solution but I will say that I do like the look of it stacked nice and neat in a systainer.  Got me thinking now!

Cheers.  Bryan.

I e-mailed a couple of questions to Woodpecker's and they're looking into it.  I have (and prefer) the traditional light gray systainers, so I'm not particularly interested in the anthracite systainer kit they're offering.  Still, I would like the foam insert that fits the T-Loc, rather than what appears to be the simply rectangular insert that comes with the non-systainer kit.  My questions to Woodpecker's were (1) whether the standard insert would fit in a T-Loc, though not perfectly, and (2) whether I could get the non-systainer kit but with the systainer foam insert.  I'll post when I get a response.  Or maybe someone on this thread  already knows the answers.

Free shipping from ToolNut by itself makes it worth ordering from THEM instead of Woopeckers. The shipping rates from WP are crazy expensive!! [big grin]

Hmmm.... still deciding... but the inevitability of my total lack of resistance to stuff like this probably will have me placing an order...even if it's while I'm sleepwalking.  I am soooooo sick! [eek]

Cheers,

Frank

Free shipping put me over the fence, so I just ordered the metric version. I agree that the Woodpecker shipping rates are crazy.

If you order direct from Woodpecker expect some exorbitant shipping charges.  The Woodpecker Dealers like ToolNut have their own policies.

Also, be careful if you use PayPal on what you 'think' will be a payment on shipping. PayPal taps your account at the moment of use regardless of Dealer's "pay on shipment' policies.

Cheers,
Frank

Post edited. It was my faulty memory at fault. I must have conflated reading the woodpecker policy when viewing the toolnut page. There is no issue here.

Frank,
I still find the CC policies confusing for woodpecker resellers. It is not clear that a resellers policy is not to follow woodpecker, especially when they redirect to a woodpecker page with a direct policy listed.

That being said, I can assure you that the Festool Dealers are a bunch of reliable, and honest folks.  If something went sour, and delivery couldn't be completed, I'm pretty confident that a refund of any paid moneys would be promptly refunded.

I have yet to have had a bad transaction with any of the Festool dealers I have purchased from, including ToolNut (festoolproducts.com), Bob Marino, Tool-Home, Amazon, Highland Woodworking, and CPO.  Others have sung the praises of dealers whom I have not had dealings with.

The point is that there are VERY few complaints regarding Festool Dealerships, and I would be extremely surprised if any of them gave you a problem if something went wrong with a pre-purchase.

I think you can feel very confident that should you have to pay in advance, you're covered.

That's my  [2cents].  [smile]

Cheers,
Frank

Hmmm, let's see...Woodpeckers $300.  Precision Dogs $140 + $30 for 2 T-tracks = $170...

Personally, I think those short track sections are not going to work very well when more than two are connected together.  Also, I prefer a knob over a phillips head screw driver.

With Incra t-tracks you can have both metric and imperial for a nominal cost.  You can always add additional Woodpecker flip stops to the Incra track.

$300 vs. $170  I don't see any advantage.

Just an FYI, the precision dog guides are out of stock. Hope for those who are interested it changes soon. personally I'm happy with the Seneca guides but the Precision Dog version seems good too. Will be passing on this woodpecker offering.

I see this thread drove demand for Precision Dogs through the roof!  [eek] They're now sold out.  Glad I ordered mine a couple months ago, even if I haven't had a chance to try them out yet.

If anyone outside the USA wants these (or really anything else---), let me know. I am willing to purchase the item and ship it to you, you would just pay the original costs and the airmail costs, no "handling" fees from me! I have done this for a couple other FOG members.

For One Time Tools, pre payment appreciated.

I really wish there was an option for longer pieces of track, or to buy without the track.  I just really dont like the idea of connecting all these pieces together and still trying to use a scale. Seems like a lot of room for error.  ANyone else feel this way?  Would the incra track be compatible?

Like many others in this thread i'm deciding between the precision system and this

How much clearance will the narrow stock rods need to slide underneath the track? I routinely need to rip thin strips of 1/8" HDPE and polycarbonate but this looks like that'd be too ambitious for that particular task.

I really like the products I've bought from Woodpeckers and I'm really tempted to buy this OTT.  However, there are legitimate questions that we won't know the answers to until this tool is delivered and people have used it in the field for a while.  I'm going to most likely hold off and hope that it will be run again in the future.

I'm fairly sure that the track is just their DP track anodized red with the scale engraved. If you don't care about the color or scale, just use the standard track which is available in 24", 36", and 48". http://www.woodpeck.com/dptrack.html

I guess we should get verification from Woodpeckers about it, but I'm pretty certain they are the same profile.
