Woodpeckers Rule Delay

Well I have been waiting for the pocket ruler for 4 months now. this morning I get a email telling me they won't ship for almost 2 more months. What a joke. Don't put dates down if you can't keep them. Be honest about it. Say we are taking orders and have no idea when you will get you item but we will hold on to your money for months. Just a rant here as if I had known this I might have went a different route. I did order the larger farming square also. Maybe next year for that it what it is looking like.

Understand your frustration, however I've never had a serious delay (more than a couple weeks) and I probably have 20-ish WP tools, 50/50 OTT and stock. In the case of the OTT, they don't hit your credit card until the order ships.

Hang in there, the tools are generally awesome & worth the wait.

I have to admit, being on the manufacturing side of things I can understand their side.

Most likely, something out of their control happened, and they decided the product would not meet your expectations for quality...so what do they do?  They start over again.  It typically costs the manufacturer a lot when this happens, and all they're trying to do is get you the product you wanted.  I know it's frustrating, but I bet there's a good reason they're delayed.  Probably something like, the company doing the finishing or plating messed up the tool and now Woodpeckers needs to remake all the parts.  In all likelihood they won't make any money on this now because they've had to remake them...

It's incredibly frustrating for all parties involved, but it's just the name of the game.  To make that 2 months deadline now, they're probably having to pay some expedite fees to speed up the lead time on them, and that's another reason they'll lose money.

I could go into more detail on why it takes so long...but know that they're probably trying their best to get you the best product possible, or atleast a product that lives up to your expectations.

With my previous OTT orders they didn't bill my CC until it shipped. Have they changed their policy?

I have never dealt with Woodpeckers until this year.

I am not impressed with the company.  The many products I have of their's are excellent but not liking the company.  They can't seem to deliver anything in a timely manner and certainly not when they say they will.  Take a look at their order status page and everything listed is significantly behind!  I'm expecting my square to be moved back from the promised May shipping to at least the end of June.  It gives the impression of a very poorly run business when they know what's coming but aren't prepared to deliver.

Another annoying thing is that they charge a significant premium for their products (can understand that) and then charge full retail shipping on top of that.  Amazing that I can buy their products from other retailers faster, cheaper and with free shipping.

Maybe they should stop these one time tool offerings until they get caught up and fix their logistics problems.  Maybe then they'll be able to offer one time tools in 60 days instead of 6 months.  Also why not move popular one time tools to regular inventory?

Despite what I think about the company, I think their products are right up there with Apple and Festool.

I know it's frustrating first of all having to wait 4 months and then having the product delayed an additional 2 months.

My experience with them is like Richard's. I've been purchasing OTT from them since 2011, and they have always been within 1-2 weeks of the promised ship date.
However, in this instance, I think Woodpecker's ran into some major internal issue (maybe machine tools) or some major external issue (maybe anodizing) or possibly both, because I just received a note from Woodpecker's stating the DF 500 Offset Base that was to ship by 2/1/2015 will now ship by 4/24/2015 and the Paolini Rule that was to ship on 4/1/2015 will now ship from 5/15 to 6/15/2015. This is very unusual for them.

Delay may have to do with them recently moving to a new plant location. My hunch is (1) they are experiencing a lot of growth and (2) the got too aggressive in pushing out new OTT and ran into bottlenecks.

Funny how there products are nearly universally praised while their business model gets a lot of flack. There's a lesson in here somewhere.

I did pay with paypal so yes they have my funds already. Not a ton of money here but it is a simple small ruler. Not a huge machining project by any means. Sounds like a lack of planning. One should get free shipping or something for the extra wait.

I understand the frustration about waiting for tools. I waited 1-1/2yrs (18 months) for a small square from Bridge City Tool Works, now that was a long wait  [eek]

You probably nailed it if they have recently moved. Those issues are always problematic. I knew it had to be something major because they've never been off by 2 months.

Business model probably works great for them, just not great for their customers. I'm like everyone else, when I spend money, I want immediate gratification. But with the OTT program, that's just not going to happen at least in its present form.

Shipping they OTT's on time definitely seems to be a problem. The only one I ordered so fare was shipped almost 2 months late. I have one other on order. The original time lag is quite substantial to begin with. I will most likely forget I even ordered. Historically, though, I've never had a problem getting the other tools they sell, though. If it's part of their regular stock items, I've gotten them quickly.

For me the OTT is like Christmas all year long - every now and then a cool tool just shows up that I forgot I ordered at 2 AM a few months prior. Sometimes I get the shipping notification and think "now what in the heck will be in that box?".

They are a small company that puts out some outstanding tools in an underserved market for top quality measuring and layout tools. They don't have any competition. The OTT's are items they are not willing to stock and they are made for the limited number of people who pre-order. Without the OTT option they would not be made and they know future sales would be very limited as everyone who wants one would generally have one. I am guessing that make a few "extra" in case someone misses the ordering deadline.

I do love their stuff. The Pro Story Stick has actually been one of my favorite tools and I actually probably have gotten my money's worth. It is, I suppose, like Christmas, although, if timed right it would be Christmas when you got it. Their tools can't be beat for accuracy; Incra's either. Some things are just worth it.

I've got 4 OTT on order so it'll be like Christmas for the next 4 months for me.
