Woodworking Show Somerset NJ

A couple guys checked in with me today and said that the crowds were REALLY good today.  Have fun and hope that lots of Foggers get together / meet.

Peter

Went to the show today and it was enjoyable, good crowds, some good topics, at least I thought so.  Sort of disappointed that the Festool dealer brings no product to sell at this show, you hear people talking how great they are after leaving the both, but they can't buy immediately.  There was some guy selling his version of a track saw in the booth right next door, and twice I heard him say that his work, but they aren't Festool.  A couple of the presenters were using Festool, they talk about using dust extraction and how dust can be harmful to your health, but the product they are using can't be purchased.  Bosch, Dewalt, Makita, nobody is offering deep discounts, but if you want something, you can get it right then.  This may be because Festool has done research showing it costs more to ship or transport tools to these events, than what they make from sales.

I will stop my rant, everyone going tomorrow, have fun.  I may still again tomorrow to see a few more demos/lectures I didnt get to and meet some fellow members.

I will say that the Festool booth was not very impressive. It seemed rather too low key. I wanted to do a test drive with the T15 impact, but they did not even have one there. I was surprised by that.

I had to leave the show early. I was watching the Bush furniture oil demo and my lady noted that for all practical purposes, I was watching paint dry.

Jimbo

I agree with you that the Festool booth wasn't very impressive.  I don't want to sound like i am bashing them, but they gave the impression they didn't want to be there.  I liked the 3 part finishing series with Jim Heavey of Wood Magazine.

I expressed concern to the dealer running the Festool booth that there should be product to sell. His reasoning was he can ship the product out on Monday for free, as long as you spend over $100, and as long as you don't live in NY you don't have to pay any sales tax. I still think there should have been some inventory brought to the show but I've helped other dealers at previous shows and no matter what you bring it's never enough and someone leaves upset. Leaving with the product is a good feeling.

I will be there Saturday and Sunday, I'll bring my ti15. If there is something in particular someone would like to see and use let me know and I will bring it.

Dave, I would be glad to watch you at the show.  Jimbo complained about low key Festool booth.  I have seen your demos and consider your approach to have been very low key BUT very informative. I have watched (high key) others at some of the woodshows who i would not buy from.  Your approach, altho low key always leaves one with new and very practical knowledge.  That is important.

I won't be there, so will miss out on meeting a whole new batch of FOG'ers.  Have a great day to all

BTW, Sal said he will be there all day.  With the two, Sal and Dave, showing, you had better bring your trucks.  OOPS!  Nothing for sale to take home from booth!  Oh well, shore up your mail boxes as soon as you get home.  [big grin]

I have to add that although we didn't have inventory on hand , those of us Joel, Lucas and I were showing and do demo's on the tools we had on site to use, most of which if not all were personally owned tools.

The dealers felt his method would work for him and that was what we worked within. For not having inventory we sold quite an amount of Festool Product for sure.

I can't say if this is the right method or not, but I will say that the Booth was active through out the whole day.

Hoping to see and meet more members today

Sal

Sal and Dave,

I didn't realize that you guys were doing demos at the show. Great!

I would also add that though it may be disappointing not to have the tools on hand to sell, the shear enormity of Festool's accessories make that pretty tough - just think of the sanders alone. Which sanders do you stock?  Want to buy the RO 150, or say the RO 90 - with its' dual pads, or the ETS 125? For a customer to have any use at all, the dealer would need to carry the abrasives for each sander. Even if you only have the Brilliant, Rubin 2 and Granat on hand, do you carry the larger 50 and 100 packs, as well as the 10 packs? It's a whole lot of material to have on hand.

Wayne and Anthony - I would have liked to have met you too; perhaps at the RI show?

FOGs very own were manning the Festool booth today and was great to catch up. I was there for 3-4 hours and looked like they were quite busy.

Pics below.

It was a good show , I picked up a few things for the shop and some goodies .  Nice meeting you Sal and talking with you .

It was a nice time and I actually managed to attend a Finishes class, which though basic, was informative.
Pleasure meeting the guys working da Booth.

I will say that it was a great 3 days at Somerset, we meet many people who have and will be adding more Fetools to their life.

We sold some tools and did plenty of Demo's on the Domino 500 and 700, the TS55 as well as the CMS and the Kapex. The dust collection was one of the things that most impressed many people.

As I said at the start it was a great 3 days
