How do you treat timber with wood worm?

I bought a table and some dining chairs from a neighbours garage sale with a plan to turn them into a wedding aniversary gift for my in-laws.  The furniture is oak (English I assume).  There are wood worm holes in the legs and under the table top.  I was thinking of breaking the items up into their components and then brushing each piece with Permethrin wood worm killer.

How do you deal with insects in timber?

Thanks
Bob

i bought a 100 or so year old beam and had it machined the timber to roughly 35mm board. It had wood worms so I went to the B&Q and they had some stuff you brush on the timber and it will kill them, takes a few appiications but it works. I dont remember the exact brand but there are a few different brands. Do it out side in your garage or garden ad it does stink but the smell will go away after it dies

Your climate may not support this, but I've wrapped boards in black plastic sheeting and set them out in the summer sun for a few weeks. Wood temps got slightly over 140 degrees Fahrenheit on a number of days and that took care of them with no chemicals needed.

Daytime temps were in the 80's and we had full daily sun along the edges of the cornfield.

Thank you both for comments.  I'd like to go down the "temperature" route but being in Northern England means there's not much sun.  I could build an oven to put the items in, but that's a job for another day.  So...chemicals is it.

Thank you.

Regards
Bob
