just got a worksharp ws3000 and gave it a quick inspection to check it was working and not damaged in transit,i notice a slight wobble/runout on the glass plate when running(thumb screw firmly tightened) also that the glass plate can be deflected a little when pressure is applied to the edge(plate stationary),is the above normal?perhaps i'm being paranoid!

I also have the 3000 and use it quite a bit. I just looked at mine and it may have a bit of runout, but it's hard to see. I'm not even sure it could be measured. It's the horizontal planes that really matter.

I can deflect the glass disk when I put some heavy pressure on it with my thumb, but it's way more pressure than you'll ever apply with a blade in use.

I'd suggest running a blade on it and see how it goes. If you don't get any chatter, you should be fine.

Hope this helps, Dan

I went in my shop and checked mine and found slight run out of the glass also but that as Dan said has no meaning, pressure on the plate does cause a defection but it was much more pressure than I would ever hold my blades by for sure

Yeah mines the same, they're not very precisely made machines but its nothing to worry about. Look on you tube there's some helpful videos showing how to save money on discs and lots of other tips. I can't remember the guys name but there's a crazy American dude on there who made a stand for it ;D

thanks guys,i'm convinced mine is ok now and watched the youtube videos, thanks again
