Workshop for my wife

We all are very particular about our workshops. And I'd like to share with you a knitting workshop i made for my wife. Hope you'll find it interesting.

That is an amazing project.  Your wife must be very impressed by the time you took to design and build that workshop. I hope she shows it to others.  It will provide a few extra points for you when it comes time to buy that next tool.

Very nice. I like it. Is that a Brother or similar brand knitting machine?

My wife has one and uses it at a work table I made for her craft room.
I have often thought that a purpose built work surface for the machine
would be better but she doesn't really have the room for it with everything
else she has in there.

[member=60461]Bob D.[/member] Thats a Silverreed machine, but sewing machine is Brother, Not sure about the overlock one This workstation i build for my wife is in our living room. We think it's nice for people to see what we are passioned about. On the other side of the same wall my bicycle workbench..

Ok on the Silverreed, looks similar to the Brother though.

Found this video which shows it in use.

[member=60461]Bob D.[/member] I think they all are the same in dimensions. In use though looks like Brother has 2 sledges for making holes, Silverreed has one.
If you are thinkin of make something similar to my wifes workshop, 2 things are good to keep in mind:
Make enough space on both sides of machine for taking of sledges.
The doors mede og 20 mm birch and mdf weight alot!!! So some kind of cross bracing and mighty hinges are necessary. I have wheels under them....

When my mom and dad immigrated to Canada after WWII as a way to get into the US quicker, he took a several part time jobs.  One of his job was a knitting machine sales person.  Growing up I remember my Mom using that with its distinctive sound as I was trying to watch tv in the other room.

I was surprised that they are still around.  I suspect that the machines Mom had (pre-1957) are antiquated and worthless, but I certainly smiled while reading this thread.
