Would you buy this sander from Festool?

If Festool combined the DTS400 with the RTS400 with the NAINA RS300 so the pads interchanged would y

Sorry, I'm not communicating clearly, that's my fault.  I'm not saying they are different parts, I'm saying it is possible they fine tune each counter balance for each individual sander (not model) but each and every DST and RTS sander that comes off the line.

Brice you were communicating properly. Now you're just repeating yourself. Since you're so convinced that there is a possibility to fine tune the counter weight, would you care to share with me how that is done exactly? Are you telling me you think it might be possible that when it's time to fit the mass produced counter weights, a technician is going to sit down besides a metal lathe or milling machine with the sander and shape the part at the spot? Don't you think that idea is seriously, incredibly far fetched?

Alex, I don't know, I was offering a possible explanation to issue of the counter balance difference.  No need to kick me in the balls with those pointy Dutch wooden shoes. [tongue]

And I was simply explaining why I think your idea is not correct. That's not kicking you in the balls, over here in Holland that's called a conversation.

Just adding a bit of tinder to the 'custom balancing' conversation
The statements about the counter-balances being different most likely is between the (old) DS/RS lines versus the (new) DTS/RTS lines.  It was a stated, published item when the new models were introduced.
DS/RTS and RS/DTS are not interchangeable (for a variety of reasons, including different plate mounts between as well as the different counter-balances).

I can't help but wonder if all this debate is over the comments in the thread below (replies 20 & 23).  To which I would argue the above:  Differences  between "lines", not models.

And, the question of them being interchangeable has been long discussed...  And answered.

Particularly, take a peek at reply 18 (mind you, the full-size photos seem to have been modified), and also at reply 35, which is a caution.

I'll just repeat what I said before.  I contacted Festool service and point blank asked David if it could be done quickly and easily and he said, "YES". And I asked what was involved in doing the changeover and he said taking the swaged band clamp off, changing the pad base and pad to the other version, then installing the large hose clamp--DONE.

No mention that I shouldn't do it or try it or warranty problem.  Just honest, straightforward answers from one of their top guys.  That's what I like.

Thank you, David McGibbon.

I like the idea and would most likely buy a machine like this. I'm in the market for Festool-y sanders to cover the small end of the spectrum, and was thinking an RO 90 + a ETS 125. This would be an interesting alternative.

I believe the RS 300 is only available in 240V which is why it is unavailable in NA.

I should like to take Greg's idea just one step further and suggest that the ls130 attachments fit as well and that a linear mode be added. I still want it to weigh 2.4 pounds.
