WOW! Brand New OF1400 EQ Bad Variable speed ?

Just got a 1400 and it sure seems to me the speed control switch is shot. If you start the router up on #1 and turn the dial nothing at all happens until it gets to #5, then from #5 to #6 it jumps in RPM's suddenly. So basically it has 2 distinct speeds. Low at #1 and high at #6, nothing in between.

This is not right correct?

By the time I got home and set everything up the dealer was closed. I will go back tomorrow and swap it out. It's not right.
