Writing readable Posts on the internet.

Meaning we are not talking about non Festool stuff in the a thread about the Kapex, etc, which I have been known to do when the topic gets off on a tangent.

Woodentop what is the picture of that face, its creepy! Now see I am off on a tangent!

Hi,

When I start a topic for a specific tool, especially if it is something I know will generate  or contain a lot of info.  I try to place a couple of different tool "names"  in the subject or use the different ones in the post itself to help with searches.  EX-  LS130  , LS 130,  Duplex. That way if someone searches for that tool it will be more likely to come up in the results. I am sure I have broken my own rule but I try.

You guys need to chill with the word police thing. Stop smoking so many banana peels. The fact that people write differently is one of the things that gives the feel here of different personalities. I haven't read too many posts that are totally illegible. My guilty pleasure is quoting someone and fixing the spelling or grammar error iin the original quote.  ;D ;D I think it's subtle and gives me satisfaction of seeing it correct.

Hi,

i nominate Eli as the official  FOG sell ecker,,, an gramer crrector.  We can just type whatever we want and let him have at it :D

Eli your eyes are better than mine or I just look at a computer screen way to long.

The formatting of a post in they ways I have suggested really make for an easier read. It has nothing to do with the writing styles or grammar. Mathew has pointed out correct spelling does improve search engine results. Good formatting also allows you to skim the posts and find what you are looking for faster.

Nice use of the moving text!

One thing that occurred to me which would probably help is if we were directed back to the end of the thread when we add something.

The way the forum is set up now, we just go back to the list of topics - but if we were sent back to see our posts in context, maybe some people would think to edit and fix their mistakes.

Is that an option that you're aware of, Matt?

And to both answer and test my answer to my own question... I believe in Profile->Look and Layout Preferences, the "Return to topics after posting by default." option does just that.

Maybe that option can be turned on for new accounts by default?

Thats how I have mine set up Graphix.

I have to read and re-read my posts after they go up. Sometimes days later I read my posts and think what the heck was I trying to say or I find I can word my thoughts better then the first time. Then I fix them. I think everyone should re-read the posts at least once or twice after they post them.

I have deleted posts entirely after I re-read them realizing my comments could be taken in the wrong way or I actually said something I would regret. I think this has saved me several times from getting into unnecessary banter.

Hi,

I believe  dirtydeeds, Eli, and others were talking about international spellings and terms.  I like the terms from other countries.  I find it interesting , and I like the international flavor that is added.  I can usually figure things out from context, or even the replies (well maybe except for some of that slang Eli posts :))  ::).    Actually I like that too.

If I may, I write every sentence with as few words as possible,

Then double space for them to sink in.

It also allows the reader to read between the lines.

If this is cumbersome for some, my apologies.

Frankly, I am quite capable of lengthy diatribes and single spacing,

You should hear me talk in person.

Alas this is my style and I'm stickin to it.
