I'm looking for a second Festool guide rail and the connectors. Thought I'd post here to see if anyone has a used one before I buy new. Priority mail shipping shouldn't be bad on one of these since they are light. No damage or heavy wear, other than needing a new splinter guard (I assumed replacing that in my max prices) or deduct as appropriate for replaceable pieces.  I am willing to pay up to $60 including shipping for the rail or $70 including shipping for a rail and connectors.

Matt,

I might be able to help you out. What part of the world do you live in?

Mike

Oh, sorry--that would help, wouldn't it?  I'm in Michigan--48140

Whoops, sorry Matt. I thought we might be close enough to hook up easily. I was also wrong about which rail I wanted to get rid of. I'm thinking of selling my 1080. Before you jump in any direction on a rail, you might want to read this thread.

Mike, I've thought about a 42" rail too if you would be willing to ship it.  with the 55" rail that would give me 97" total which seems like it would work well for 8' cuts?

Matt,

Sure we can talk about it. PM me and I can call or something. The two you're thinking about won't make 8'. You'll wind up sliding them to finish the cut. Remember that the rails need to hang over the ends by a certain amount in order for the saw to start/complete its cut while still being on the rails.

Thanks.  It sounds like I should keep looking for a 55" or even longer since my primary use for the system will be breaking down sheet goods.

Matt--

You probably want the new style rails, explained here.

This isn't an issue if you're buying new, since only the new style is available now.

Matt,

I've tried that too, but after one cut realized it was more trouble than its worth and bought a single 2700mm rail.  A bit pricey, but far less trouble than joining two rails, especially if one is from your MFT.  It takes too much time to get the MFT set square again as there is just enough play in the connectors on the hinge to allow the MFT rail to be ever so slightly off square if you don't reset it carefully.

Thanks.  More good info--I didn't even know there was an old stye.

Fred-No plans at this time for an MFT.  Of course that could change in the future, but for now that is the plan.

Matt,

You'll definitely need to consider the MFT at some point.  I debated for a while and finally decided to get one.  I find I've used it more than any other Festool purchase - it's replaced my table saw for most cross cuts and its extremely useful as a work surface, clamping, and assembly area.

I'm located directly west of you about 170 miles.

Fred

Maybe at some point, but my next major Festool purchase will be a Domino.  And that's at least 6 months away.
