Hi Everyone,

Sorry for another kapex question. I don't own one (yet)  but i love all my festools even the ones i don't use much.  I own a solid wood working shop and I don't baby my tools so I'm unsure about the kapex. Im pleased with my bosch 12" glide saw but i can't really resist a festool especially a festool on sale.
so the question is will the kapex hold up with heavy solid lumber (upto 12/4 thick) day in and day out? will it baby me even if i don't baby it? will it outperform my Bosch?

Thanks
G.K.

I am far from being a Kapex engineer so my response is as a serious hobby woodworker with a passion for fine tools.

I cut a lot of Ipe, ironwood, with the Kapex. Also cut ebony, walnut, hard maple, and oak.

The Kapex seems to power through these woods. I monitor feed rate and keep a sharp blade in the machine.

Laboring these Kapex with a too fast feed rate or using a dull blade could shorten its life.

I baby my tools in that they get vacuumed/cleaned/maintained at the end of the day. I don't go to bed with dirty tools in the shop.

GK

I don't own a Kapex yet (but I might with this sale) but I have seen posts on here about the saw motor burning up (or some such problem).  If I were you I would do a search on Kapex issues to see if these potential problems were resolved.

I finally took the bait and got a Kapex a week ago or so. I work with 12/4 stock also and am currently doing a 12/4 & 8/4 walnut project. I'd guess I have about 40 cuts in so far and haven't been disappointed. I previously used a Dewalt Dw780.

I do not cut stock that size day in/out, but I do not foresee it being an issue. I'd suggest comparing the power output (watts/amps) of the two motors. As you already know a sharp blade goes a long way.
