I like this site and will continue to contribute here. I would like to encourage the rest of the members here to post their work, ideas and to continue to respond to each others projects and conversations as well. I'm sure I will visit other sites as I always have but it won't change my contributions here. Something I will try to do here is create detailed builds of my projects so others can learn from my efforts. I hope it will help take FOG in a positive direction as well. FOG didn't end up in this situation on its own, it took is members to get here. So now, us as members need to take it in a new direction. Lets focus on positive contributions we can bring to the table. I've never had any negativity from anyone here and I have always appreceiated your kind responses to my work. I sincerely thank you for that.

If anyone would like to reply to this post, I'd like it to be in a positive way. I'd like to hear what kind of things you all think we can contribute to make this enjoyable for everyone. Provided Mathew is OK with my thinking, I think we can collectively make FOG better than ever. Lets fix this.

Thanks for your time.

Bill,

Current events here were exactly why I decided it would be a good time to post the update about my cutting table, I thought the posting something constructive and Festool related would be a good idea.

Hi Bill,

I think you are right on the money and expressed your thoughts as a true gentleman. I haven't posted much here, but I've learned more about Festool tools here than anywhere else on the internet and I look forward to that continuing.

Brent,

We all have questions.  Surely you have one or a thought that you would like help or feedback on.

Peter

Hi Peter,

Pretty much every question that I've had has already been answered here before I even knew I needed it!! That probably is in part due to the limited number of Festool tools I have (Domino, saw, router, sander and MFT). Unfortunately buying all the accessories that you guys get to play with is a bit hard here in Canada right now. But, from what Shane at Festool emailed me, that may not be a problem for much longer. If and when we get better dealers up here you'll be sorry you said this....my questions will be flooding the board  :).

Just remember - questions are always welcome.  Someone here will hopefully know that answer.

Peter

Bill,

The funny thing about the Internet and forums in general is sometimes we learn more then we'd care to know ;D

True, true. Remember when we needed a definition we had to get a dictionary or go to the library? Pretty amazing that we can get more answers about tools or anything else for that matter, in seconds, where it could take days to get answers only a couple decades ago. Most likely, we never would have even crossed paths if it weren't for Internet. I think all the more reason to use it constructively. IMHO there will always be passionate opinions but we also have to have the respect that that opinion may not be the only passionate one. I like to feel we're all friends here with plenty to offer each other.

Anyone have new projects in the works? I'm back on to my LOMLs 4ft jewelry box. I built the latest Humidor because I was at an impass as to what to do next on the JB.

Not trying to toot my own horn but anybody see my gallery. 99 pictures with a detailed description of the build of the humidor. If you guys like that, I'll do the same on future projects.

I like the tone and direction of this thread way better than the Goodbye and Good Luck thread.  I'd much rather be a part of the solution than a part of the problem.  Thanks Bill.

Bill, David and all the other positive thinkers thank you.

To everyone who cares to read this:

You've probably gotten tired of seeing me post over the last few days, and for that I apologize to some degree.  That has been totally out of my character because I have chosen to absorb valuable insights, comments, and frankly knowledge from other people more experienced than I in so many areas.  But frankly I've had enough.  Enough of the theatrics.  Enough of my sitting on a fence post.  Along those lines there is nothing significantly different right now than several days, weeks, months ago.  There exists here so many individuals representing knowledge in so many aspects of our lives - not just green colored tools - that the faucet tap hasn't even been opened.

A forum is comprised of the members who choose to participate.  Knowledge and participation of a group is far superior to that of one.  I guess that a forum of one is really just a blog.  This has never been a blog - what has happened here hasn't even been personal I believe.  Forums are dynamic creatures that must grow and expand to exist - that is logical because they are constantly exposed to a membership change.  Different styles, different view points, different mannerisms.  New ideas, new features.  I haven't looked to see if there is a book on administering a forum - but I doubt it.  If I'm wrong so be it.  Arguments and supposedly ill will has surfaced and it is always easier to point the gun at one person.  Guess who that is?  Why?  Because that person felt that everyone should have input and also believed that change might be good.

This is a forum that was started by someone to offer insight and knowledge to owners of Festool products and others interested in the capabilities of those products.  Sharing of information is the cornerstone on which this was conceived and brought into existence.  It remains the largest collection of such knowledge and is accessible to all.  Unfortunately the focus has been turned away from what this originally was created to provide.  I personally agree that the time has come to refocus on what brought all of  us here in the first place.

I said it earlier - a forum is composed of the people who participate / contribute.  It is not about the theatrics and the people who choose to not participate.  I'll continue my attempt to contribute.

Just my  six cents worth.

Well said Peter.

Like to add one thing, if someone is a member of another forum, that does not make them a traitor to this forum.

Well said Dave, I'm with you on that one.

Les,

Darn straight!!

By example:

I am a member of several other forums.  That doesn't change my thoughts or feelings towards this one.  Forums don't own us.  We make them what they are.  For those who feel differently I ask you to ask yourself this question:  Can I support or give of myself to only one charitable organization?

What so many people see as the issue really isn't the issue.  It has never been about people belonging to another forum.  Matthew has said it again and again.  It is about the fact that when we all joined this forum there were rules in place that we agreed to abide by.  Those rules were put there to offer protection from someone using the member list to solicit or spam us.  They weren't put into place to restrict our opportunity to communicate with each other.  But when certain actions recently took place frankly the administrator and owner of the forum did not have a choice.  He had to act - possibly even from a legal and liability stand point.  I DON'T KNOW THAT FOR A FACT, so please let's not speculate.  It's in the rules that we all agreed to, those rules apply, and that's just the way that it is.

Have you ever wondered why you mainly see bad news on TV? It's because they don't have the time to report all the good.  Same thing here.  There is so much knowledge that it has become normal and unfortunately thru time we have become attuned to tuning into the abnormal rather than the normal.

Turn off the bad news and enjoy each others contributions.

Now up to eight 13 cents worth.

Thank you for your patience,

Peter

Bill,

Thanks for your post. Hopefully we can get back to talking projects, tools and interesting ideas.

Bob

AMEN Brothers. I love these tools and I feel I've learned from many of you in spades. Believe it or not, I didn't even know what Festool was about 1-1/2 years ago. Actually, my shop was dirt back then too. What I've found here is not just tools and there uses, but an ideology that strives for perfection and inovation. In my case I've missed the mark but I'll keep tearing the project apart until I get it right. ;D There's never been a tool company that motivated me that way. The big bonus is, I found a forum of people that seem to feel the same way about their tools and their projects. I'd just like to say thanks for helping turn this around everyone. This is a great place.

Nicely done Bill, well spake. Alright, I was saving it until it was totally done but that could be another month of punch list the way things are going. So for you Bill, for this thread, here's the first link to my current build journal.

Oscar's Alehouse - Build Journal

Enjoy.  ;D ;D ;D

Peas out.

WOW Eli, that is looking fantastic. I like the curved work. You bring back memories of when I was a framer. Is this on your house? I've been trying to talk the wife into a build on on my house as well. Maby if I show her your work it might swing her my way. Please keep posting. I look forward to the finish project. Thanks for the post and the motivation.

Thanks. No, it's a comm'l project. A friend of mine (a friend from LA who lives just over the hill from me here in AU) has been planning to open a bar for a bit longer than a year. It was and has been a lot of waiting to get started, and I've had to work it in around film work. It's a microbrew and wine place, all the other bars in town are loud music, sawdust on the floor type places, so the bar is set a bit higher for here to capture the drinks-after-dinner types who want to speak conversationally, no loud music.

The curved bit is Karri over 6mm marine ply. The pieces are between 6-10mm thick. It's sold as landscape edging. It's laminated on with Liquid nails. It was a bitch getting it up there and sanded, but worth it.

It reminds me of when I was a framer as well. I really would like more finish work, but I've had to do basically everything here. I reglazed a glass door yesterday! Oh well, JOAT-MON.

Eli,

Thanks for sharing.  I know that it has been and will still be alot of work - but as someone who can sometimes measure their work load in portions of hours I am envious of being allowed to set up and come back day after day.  Your experience and teaching is inspiring to me and I strongly suspect many others here.  Thank you.

Peter
