Good Morning,
Late last night, the Festool Owners Group passed 10,000,000 total page views.

That's the total number of views we have had since the forum was established in January 2007.  Quite an impressive number!

What are "page views"?  Also known as "hits," this is the number of times visitors (guests or members) view something on this forum.

Of course, page views are only a small part of this forum's success.  But it's an indicator of the healthy activity on the FOG.

This forum keeps track of a lot of stats about who, what, and where of forum activity.  To see all stats, jump to the statistics page: CLICK HERE.

Stay in touch,
Matthew

Very impressive!  Congratulations, Matthew, and thanks!!  I have benefited greatly from FOG in regard to Festool, woodworking and PC knowledge and use.

Matthew page views and hits are not the same thing. Everyone will get many more hits than page views.

Hits can be from anything, web spiders, web search engines, different automated  processes and a bunch of other technical "hits". Page views are generally from a verifiable IP address ie a real person viewing a page.

Still very impressive and a nice milestone.

Matthew,
I agree with the others. very impressive and useful information. A question: who do you use for compiling this data and how much does it cost?

It does not cost me anything extra to get this information, because I signed up for a Web-hosting package for the FOG that includes these statistics.  The Web host I hired to house the forum has database functions that keep track of all this.  I can sign into my account and look at reams of data about visitors to this site, and could really get lost in the variety of information that's available there!  (I don't actually spend that much time looking at this information, but it's there if I ever need it.)

The forum software (SMF) picks up some database information and passes it to the page you see when you visit the FESTOOL OWNERS GROUP - Statistics Center.  It presents the statistics into a more user-friendly format.

What you see in the statistics page is by no means the complete information about the site -- just the stuff most people might be interested in seeing.

OK, that's probably more technical stuff than most people need or want to know about forum statistics!

Always happy to answer questions,
Matthew

I have installed modifications that do not allow spiders, crawlers, and search engines to be counted in page views.  The only page views that count in the tally you see in the statistics page are from members or guests whose IP address can be detected.

One thing that has always been on my mind is how to convert more "guests" to members.  We have a lot of people visiting this site and reading posts, but who rerain from becoming members.  I'm glad the site is useful to so many people, but I also want them to join and post.

Thanks,
Matthew

Matthew I have the same for my web site.

But still the "hits" number is always higher than the "page view" number for whatever reason. Does your software show hits and page views separately showing the same number? If it is I guess it is accurate then.

Also between my private software, web log expert, my web site software, the domain software and google analytics, none of the numbers are ever the same for any of the categories. I would think the numbers through your forum software would be the most accurate if it tracks that.

Nick,
I have access to many different kinds of visit statistics.  It's pretty amazing, actually, how detailed the numbers can get.  Through my Web host, I can get hit counts.

For the purposes of the forum, "page views" are displayed.

Thanks,
Matthew

Matthew how many actual posts have been made here?

I think that is a more useful number for a forum because it takes into account actual participation. You never know how many of those page views(well I guess you can count them up) were for a second or so.

My other forum is 500 away from 100,000 posts I have no idea if that is a lot a little or average for a 5 year old forum.

That figure seems to be shown on the Statistic page:

As at 2300GMT on 12 Feb:

Total Posts: 64,919
Average Posts Per Day: 85.57
Total Page Views: 10,059,216
Average Page Views Per Day: 13,235.81

Forrest

Thanks Forrest I knew that was somewhere around here. That seem like a lot of posts!

Wow, that's pretty cool! And I thought my 70 000 hits a month are something to be proud of... 1 mill is something else!!!

Congratulations!

I guess sawmill creek has over 1 million posts, darn that is a lot! I  have never posted there, but have been reading posts for years.

It just seems to big for me.

Forrest,
Thanks for providing the Statitics page link.  You jumped in before I did (that's why you're the link leader!)...

I encourage all members to look at the Statistics page.  It has some interesting information about forum activity and membership.

There's an easy way to get to the Statistics page:
1. From the home page, just scroll down near the bottom of the page, to the "Forum Stats" section.
2. Click on the "[More Stats]" link.

We've had 64,979 posts after just over 2 years.  At that rate, we should be well over 100,000 posts by 5 years!

Not to be a stickler, but please allow me to respectfully offer a clarification: that's 10 million!

Thanks again,
Matthew

I think that number is very low..... considering Nick accounts for more than half of that :-*

Funny  :)

Actually people do not post enough here. There are guys on other forums posting 10 times  a day, everyday.

I see some people post questions here and never get a response, I think if everyone posted ten times a day this forum would be better. If no one posts there is not a whole lot to read. At least I keep something going in the threads while helping as many as I can.

Nick you know I'm kidding right?    There.. now you've antagonize post number 2 for me today, only eight more to go.
