Hello.

Fist off, I must thank all members of FOG for the entertaining reading over the last few years. (about the only reading, bar the usual tool p*^% catalogues)

Well ! Back to subject....

101 USES FOR A DOMINO!

This is a a fun post, yet still apt for the How To Board. My inspiration for this topic come from a childhood book. 101 uses for a dead cat! Nice. you think, but you would be surprised!  [big grin]

Scence my 10 month old habit started. I have been finding a faster, more efficient way to work, with opening opportunities, and what (early days) seem endless possibilities.

What started as a greedy green gorge. Quickly evolved a passion for certain shade of green.

Blah! Blah! I can waffle a bit sorry.

The DF500 made me do it!
Yep, the reason we are reading this. Keep thinking to myself this is Great!
Next! Ok, maybe?.. Done... Just like that.

I would like to share finally.. A few of what I see as a start of a resource, for the uses of DOMINOS and their SLOTS, ooh.. Someone might have to clean up the language though [big grin]

RULES:

All practice and no theory please [smile]. We all love a picture. I know I've drooled over a few FOG delights. Pics with quick explanation would be great.

Sorry there is extreme domino abuse going on here. Any "by the book" sorts, might want to look away NOW! Or see the possibilities unveil..

Here are some examples so far. The ones at least, that I have photo for evidence. There are others, but they are gone jobs.
I know you guys will surprise us all. Don't be shy or hold back any of your domino tips and tricks.

Don't know but could be fun to rate some how?

Probably best to put a disclaimer in here somewhere [big grin]
I can only give my own experience as that it will be alright!
If you chose to copy anything shown by me or other festoolians, please be sure that you pay great care and attention, when performing a new task that you may be sure or unsure of. You are allowed to think otherwise, but I respect all my tools massively even non green.

The count down. I only managed 11 for now, takes time to evolve. [smile]

1: domino in a domino, hum hum. Rack/hook thing? No4 in the end of a No14 works!

2: sliding door slider stud. Used No5 to hold some UH.. Um that slippery plastic stuff. Works very well.
[attachimg=2]

[attachimg=3]

3: foam partition support. Dose what it says, works, was amazed [scared]. Found to require a fast feed speed. Do so on your own back! Safe but think if you go too slow there is a chance of a smooth, hot hole. Easy now!
[attachimg=4]

4: button slots. Old school, but best! Bit too easy that one..
have to take another pic

5: feet, super simple, could say OTT! Or expensive, but when you have thousands of No5's and its in the machine. Why not?
[attachimg=5]

6: access slots. Nice and slow through face of Formica/Stratifie. Saved the day.
[attachimg=6]

7: jig bolt slots, easy and accurate. On and on, and on, endless possibilities.
[attachimg=7]

8: tool holder for set up block, worked for me, if a bit rushed in the excitement. Timtool inspired, thanks dude.
[attachimg=8]
[attachimg=9]

9: location pegs for storage lids in a sys4 project yet to be finished. Had to use a depth reducing stop and shim. Pretty cool, got to love the systainer.
[attachimg=10]

10: worktop fixing expansion slots. Another clean, quick and smart way to go.
[attachimg=11]

11: sliding dovetail bread board with expansion slots and pegs. Bit trick. But really cool.

Thanks for reading and don't forget to add to the pile!

Hey, I think you're getting the hang of it!

[wink]

I like your ideas and I will definitely be stealing some of them! Thanks for posting these!

I don't have any to add myself yet as I haven't been able to spend much time in the shop, but I promise to add to your list when I can. I like the idea of numbering them and letting people add on. Hopefully there will be OVER 101 ideas...

This is a great thread!!  No pics, but I have used Dominos for stops before - cutting with the track saw  or whatever. Good stuff!

When you created the table buttons, did you plow the mortise in a longer piece, and then cut down to size, or do you have a handy jig you created to be able to domino on such small stock?

[size=14pt]Thanks for asking Grasshopper.

As you thought -
The timber used was remachined  scrap length of 42x19mm pine, which was held by two Festool MFT clamps and the domino slot routered with D500. Then pine piece cut on Mitre Saw; then back to clamps and repeat.
[size=12pt]
MFT is hand made; approx. 1000X300mm MDF section that I clamp to bench.

Cool thanks.  I was right in the middle of working out a jig to cut mortises in stock that appears to be about the same size (except my stock is already cut).

This is a good thread and I intend to contribute when it warms up a little towards the end of the week. I might even attempt another video. My first try was not good at all.  [ban]

I started using dominos to line up cabinet face frames when I install them.  Makes them perfectly flush every time and helps hold them in place while I drive the screws home.  B.E.A.utiful!

Surprised this thread doesn't have more post.
